I've been working on some shot setups. The nice thing about having a camera is you can do a lot of pre-visualization in your own apartment. :)
I have a basic shot setup for the shower scene... And no, it's not a shower scene in the typical sense. It's "dark." And no, not "dark" in the typical sense either... I guess you'd have to see it to know what I'm talking about...

Have the basic story laid out. Had lunch with one of Hollywood's heavy hitters. We banged out the story line and I've managed to talk him into directing this thing. Things are looking good...

I was considering not entering my own project, but the more I thought about an idea, them more it started to develop. Now I have 2 main characters and the first few lines of dialog, but it's a start. I need to find a writer. I'm not that good at developing stories - I'm better with developing characters.
But you should join. I enjoyed Frozen River. You gave a very good performance in that.

Nah... I very well might grab my guitar and play something for the soundtrack though... :)

Ooh. a thread... it's official.... And acting in it aye... Can't say I'm surprised about that, but the choice to not direct as well is interesting. Probably wise...
But, I'm wondering what other role(s) will you play in overseeing this project, and technically as well?
Later,
Jason

Thanks for the encouragement but I think I mighta jumped the gun saying I was going to enter. I'm taking holidays and might take my camera with me and slap something together. Damn it, I think I will enter... no... yes... ah crap.

Well, one thing that I learned from directing my Horrorfest entry last year (which is still on tape and really needs to be transferred one of these days) is that I really don't want to direct... I only want to play a role as it lets me get more into the story from a specific point. Also, since I want to be in front of the camera, it's very hard to do that and direct at the same time. That and the fact that I don't really want to concern myself with the lighting, framing, etc. I want to have some creative input story-wise and a role.
I'll be producing this though. I'll bring the crew together and set up the scheduling and everything. I don't really want to, but I kind of have to, since this is my project.
John and I have worked out a creative agreement so that we'll both be happy (or hopefully!) with the final cut...
nice poster tommy!
Thanks Matty! Hope you'll be able to help us out with this short... :)

I'm not really sure what the status is on this one... haven't heard back from any of the actors - although I'm not really pushing anyone into anything... I'm kind of leaning towards serious pre-visualizations for shorts or feature length projects - setting up all the scenes in Lightwave 3D with animatics and the works... I figure it's time that I really started to get picky with things if I hope to have any sort of success as a director (yes, I would direct this instead of acting in it).
I've been reading a book called "Short Films 101: How to make a short film and launch youre filmmaking career" and am really starting to focus on filmmaking as a craft... which means, who knows what it means... ok, it means going with a project in the same genre as what I eventually want to stay with and just... be picky I suppose...
Anyway... enough rambling... :)

Are you still planning to work on this? If so let's hear about it!!!
Tom Marshall
09-30-2007, 11:58 PM
I've had a couple of actors that I've gotten in touch with but they haven't gotten back to me.
John G. came up with a great script, but I don't really have the resources to pull it off the way that I would want to, so it looks like this one won't happen. I'd love to, but I don't want to spend anything on a budget that I won't be happy with and can't really use for a reel...
Besides, I've got something a bit bigger on the horizon...
