Lets say weve finished editing and rendering our a short commercial or whatever for that matter. Now we would like to save the project file with the source clips (uncompressed), images etc . Basically whatever media was used in the project. So that if theres a need to reedit this project and deliver in different formats etc it will be useful. Is there a save method in Vegas which can save to a folder the project file along with all the media that was included in the project ? I know we can do this manaully by taking each file/s out of their folders and putting them into a final folder and burning to DVD or something ?

Yes. When you Save As, there's a checkbox for saving trimmed copies of the media with it.

ok so this doesnt save he entire raw footage but rather only the cuts we took ? Eg, Ive used a 240gb uncompressed video but cut it down to only 1 min on the timeline. When i use this option only the 1 min cut gets saved ? and as uncompressed avi ?

Yes, it saves the trimmed clips in their original form -- you can specify if you want to add extra handles on either end of the cuts.

Thanks, I'm about to do the same, to clear some space on my hard disk.
Logically, it must also edit the project to correctly point to the new locations in the cut down footage - quite clever.

What does extra handles mean ?

It means some extra space on the ends of the trimmed clips.

Hmm but if i didnt want to maintain the uncompressed avi's. Maybe if it was a full length movie and so wouldnt fit onto a dvd for archiving etc. Whats the work around ? Then do i save as an EDL ? Then delete the files. How do i reuse the EDL. Do i just reload the uncompressed avis with the same names etc ?

If you're going to do that, then save the VEG file, not an EDL. With an EDL, you'll lose any effects, any transitions other than a cross-fade, etc. . . . it'll be cuts-only.

Ok so ill save the veg file and just use search for the media when required right ?

If you keep it in the original spot, you won't have to search for it, it'll just be there when you need it.

Hudson > the very reason as ive asked to start with is to not keep them in the original place because they are huge (240 GB). Even on my modest 1 terrabyte system thats quite some space. Anyway not a big deal to just say search incase we cant recreate the exact same paths. I also think vegas will after that automatically look for further data and media in the same folder. Not a big deal.
