hi there guys I have problem, I use hvx200 vegas 7 w raylight
now I do commercials and whenever I am done I have to upload an mpeg2 file into a ftp site so that the broadcasting agency can air the commercial, now what is the best mpeg2 codec that I can render as? I did a commercial the other day and used one of the dvd atchitect codecs and whenever I saw the commercial on air it looked way too dark and it was kinda jumpy, I rendered as mpeg 2 24p inserting 3+2 pulldown, am I doing something woring here?? when you are upoloading something for broadcast do you have to send the mpeg with the 3+2 pulldown on there?
thanks

The frame jumpiness might very well be due to the pulldown technique. Also pulldown might have to match what sort of pull down echnique their equipment is using. How do they air this using your Mpeg2 ? Try rendering a progressive Mpeg2 without any pulldown. Might work.

ok here is my question in a different manner
see I use 720p 24PN and sometimes 72030PN
now I do commercials and have to upoload to an ftp site so that the commercial gets aired, now when I render in vegas in either of these two modes do I need to add 3+2 pulldown so that it plays correctly on regular tv's
thanks

When rendering for broadcast, always render as 29.97.
Also, as for the colors, make sure you do your color correction, etc., previewing to an external NTSC monitor, so that you don't get any surprises.

There's only one kind of pulldown available in MPEG-2, which is the same 2:3 pulldown having been used for broadcast since the beginning.
In fact, the problem is probably that a progressive render is not what you want in this case.

Render as 29.97 interlaced. That's the broadcast standard, and it's what you want.

david I am afraid that the pulldown is not insterted automatically because whenever I am about to render to mpeg2 it gives me a whole lot of options on what pulldown I want and its on 3+2 default, so is this where I leave it at?
and one last question if you dont mind me asking, why so I have to render as interlaced?
thanks david

The pulldown will be added automatically when you render as 29.97 in order to make it 29.97 -- it's just like any VHS copy of any Hollywood movie.
You should render as interlaced because that's the national TV standard.

david I wonder how you handle your 7.5 IRE on vegas and your broadcast monitor? can you tell us your workflow?

I use the scopes; they're set to 7.5 IRE. I don't go below it.
I also keep a video track under everything else with a fade envelope all the way down. I have the bottom Fade Color set to 16, 16, 16.
