what if you filming an event outdoors....say like some kind of sporting event, and its windy. how do you film to not have the wind noise come in to your camera....you can't use boom poles because it such an big event...so how do you not pick the wind up?

Put a windscreen over your camera's microphone.

If you're talking about the on-board microphone, just forget about it. No windscreen is made that can do proper wind protection on those things.

If it's an external mic, get a real wind screen like the Rycote Softie. The foam ones that come with the camera is next to useless.

you can protect the mic somewhat by having your back to the wind.

by just having a winscreen on your camera will prevent the wind from coming in......ok i have a wind screen i bought when i bought my camera, but it won't fit on my camera, its a furry windscreen, but i can't fit it

I used a rycote softie on my shotgun mic at an outdoors wedding and still had pretty bad windnoise (conditions weren't the best). When editing I used a high-pass filter on the footage (under audio filters usually) and it came up pretty damn good.

How about completley removing the original 'windy' audio and replacing it with your own ambient, crowd, cheering sound FX and music track? Don't waste time trying to fix it. Delete it and construct something better. Get creative.
