I was just told by a client that Barry's book contains chart that relates the 0-99 focus numbers to actual feet/inches. (like the setting in camera is supposed to, but actually accurate)

Now I think he might be mistaken. I've read Barry's book multiple times, and keep it in my personal HVX kit for quick references and the closest thing I can think of is the chart that relates the zoom numbers, the in camera zoom mm numbers, and their equivalent on 35mm.

I don't have the book or camera on me to double check, but does anyone know if this chart exists?

Page 186 of the HVX Book has a chart with 3 columns.

z - for zoom percentage 00 to 99
HVX - for mm focal from 4.2 to 55.0
35mm still photo equivalent - from 32.5 to 423

The chart does not relate z % to feet.

Like you mentioned, the camera itself has a ft estimate in the display, but I don't see a chart in the HVX Book. I guess that's why Barry recommends in the Bootcamp video to get a laser measure or tape measure.

The DVX Book has that chart. The HVX doesn't need it, because you can just set the menu item to show feet or meters instead of numbers.

Hi, I just want to say first how great it is that Barry comments so frequently and writes/provides so many tutorials. However, I find it very confusing that he provided the hvx book, a reference/instructional book about the hvx, without an index. I mean I know the information I need is in the book but its a matter of accessing it when you need to. I think that Panasonic did the same thing but my list of complaints is already too long (and I don't think they are even paying attention) whereas I think Barry is committed. I mean honestly a pdf would be more helpful because at least this way I can do a search and narrow things down this way. Thanks for the materials though.

Er... not sure what you mean. The index is pages 268 to 271...

Oh ..... so you decided to put the index in the back where nobody could find it eh?

(Just being a smart aleck :))
