I'm so used to shooting DVX100 where I can just give them the Mini-DV copy of the master. But with HD, I'm not sure how I can deliver it. It's a music video that will get transferred to Beta SP at some point for television play.

I used to just go Mini-DV to BETA, but I don't think that's a smart idea here.

Any ideas? I want to keep the quality as high as possible.

Since were I work I have the option to output to whichever format is needed (HDCAM, DVCPRO HD, DIGITAL BETA), I don't have much of a problem. However, If I was to go freelance, I would include in my HD shooting price the cost of transfering my master file to DVCPROHD tape- which any respectable Post house should be able to do. If the client requires other formats, include the price on the quotation.

I'm using FCP on my Mac Pro, so I don't have any way of putting it to DIGITAL BETA, or DVCPRO HD or anything.

I think I might just do the highest rez quicktime file thing on a data DVD. That seems like a good option.

Its not you who would be outputing... You would take your master Quicktime Edit, take it to a Post house with a DVCPRO HD/Digibeta/hdcam or whatever deck and then ask them to export to tape. Include that on your budget. Ask the post houses for that service and what they charge. ANd add that amount to your client.

edit in a native dvcprohd timeline. when youre done, create a new 8-bit uncompressed SD sequence. drop your dvcprohd sequence onto the new SD timeline. render. done.

then you can shoot that out to beta, minidv, dvcam, or out to dvdspro - whatever

Ahhh...thank you much for the help!

I hadn't thought about any of this until the project was finished.

I usually shoot to my firestore sometimes to p2, if I'm not editing the project, I tranfer all the footage over to a portable hard drive and charge the client $100, then I give them the hard drive, usually the same day as the shoot. It actually equals about the same amount as when I would charge them for betasp tapes. If I'm editing I send them the downconverted footage on a dvd with timecode burned in.

My clients like DVDs. They just put them anywhere and watch.
Most of them wouldn't notice the difference (HD-SD)
