Not Auto-Exposure

I have been taking my new HVX out for playtime to get ready for a shoot and I noticed something odd happening with exposure.

I had the cam set to manual exposure. I was on the beach (an exposure nightmare). I didn't notice any exposure shift while shooting but it was apparent when viewing the footage at home. It's about 2/3 to 1 stop. As something dark comes into frame, exposure shifted up, and as I went back to sandy light colors, exposure shifted back down.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong if I want locked-in exposure?

Even in Manual mode, you may set several switches to auto. Check out SW MODE and AUTO SW. Auto Iris is what it sounds like...or backlight.

I also set some to activate using the USER 1, 2, 3 buttons just under the display. They come in handy for theater stuff I shoot.
