Is the HPX500 a true 1080 24p, or is it an uprez trick like they do with HVX200?
BTW, anyone in LA know of a good deal for month long rental of digiprime set please let me know. I'll be shooting a feature soon and want those lenses.

the hvx does not have an uprezzed trick - it is true 1080 - but it accomplishes that by pixel shift which is a mathamatical way of getting more resolution. It is valid and it is true 1080 - and the hpx does exactly the same thing
forget about how it gets the resolution - just judge the image - i think you will be surprised.

Well, that's very disappointing then, because I recall tests on the HVX showing that there was ZERO detail gain shooting in 720 verses 1080. But if it was true 1080 then the 720 uprez would not have as much detail as the 1080.
that may be the factor that makes ne choose the HDX900 rather than the HPX500

Ive used the HDX and its beautiful. Easy to use and stinks of great images. It's also going to cost you a few $ more.
I have to say the HPX is a kick ass camera. Im totally loving it. The latitude on this baby is just mind blowing (did I just say that?) but where an HVX may lack this puppy is worth every cent. I compare its great image vs price on the pro level to the Canon A1 on the prosumer level.
Ill say it again and again - latitude, latitude, latitude - unbeatable at this level of $ v ROI. I'm still not THRILLED with the reds. HDX kills it in this regard. But there are a few new options on the table from Pana, Id check them all out.

I´m thinking of renting out eather the HPX 500 or the new 3000 for an upcomming project.
I´m totally satisfied with our HVXs images, but I think I want the convinience of a broadcast style lens for that shoot, perfect zooms, easier focusing and maybe a tad more in resolution and latitude...
Now the HPX 500 rents out cheap, but is it worth to rent if you already got the HVX?
I´m not sure about the final budget yet, bud I think I´d be willing to spent (and charge) another 1K on renting, for a SIGNIFICANT upgrade to the fine images the HVX is capable of...
What do you think?

Spartacus, Id say absolutely worth it, especially if your considering it as an upgrade cam. Youll see what I mean when you shoot with it.

because I recall tests on the HVX showing that there was ZERO detail gain shooting in 720 verses 1080.
Well, either you recall incorrectly, or you were reading test reports from someone who doesn't know what they're doing or what they're talking about. The HVX200 delivers around 20% more resolution in the recorded image when using 1080 vs. 720. Additionally, it delivers much cleaner footage with fewer compression artifacts in 1080, vs. 720.

Lens adapters for the HPX500 will depend on what lens did you get with your camera.
Both Canon and Fujinon have a few adapters; check out others threads about lenses to decide which one will better fit your kind of work.
Welcome to this forum (from another 'brasileiro') there's a lot to learn here and very generous people posting.
