View Full Version : It's gotta be my camera?

I'm using Vegas 6d, never had a problem capturing footage from my dvx100a before until now. When I plug my camera into my computer using the 1394 firewire cable, Vegas doesn't recognize the camera, it says device not detected. I did a search and read similar issues and tried different solutions, nothing worked.

I took my camera to a friends house with vegas and tried to capture footage, but my friend's computer doesn't recognize the camera. I even switched the 1394 Firewire cable, and nothing.

Could it be my camera's firewire port is messed up? God I hope not.

Hey. I've heard that the firewire ports on the DVXs tend to "go." I read this on the forum before I got the cam, so I dropped another 200 on a deck when I bought the DVX.

That's probably cold comfort now. If it is your camera and it's under warranty, you should be able to have it fixed no problem. It's bogus - one should be able to hook the DVX to the computer without big risks if they choose to do so.

Good luck.

Yeah, I'm definite now it's the camera, I used a cheap Mini DV to test it, and the Mini DV hooks up fine and vegas detects and captures.

I guest I'm going to have to send my camera in for repair, it's 2 years old don't think it's under waranty.. I have to check..

I wouldn't say they "tend to go." The problem has been most often reported among FCP users, because Macs have powered FireWire ports and they've caused shorts. It's pretty uncommon among Windows users.

That doesn't mean it's not the problem in this case, only that it's rare.
