I wonder, would anyone know if it is possible to create your own wipe in Sony Vegas? Specifically I'd like a wipe that comes in horizontally from the top and bottom-meets in the center of the picture and looks like sharp teeth closing down. It's not a preset (at least in v.6) and if there is a plugin somewhere I haven't been able to find it.
Thanks-Jamie

You could do it on a track above, using two graphics of the "teeth", then keyframe them to chomp down.

I understand the general concept there but I don't know how to make that a wipe.

Assuming the new scene would be visible when the teeth reopen, a regular cut could be used on the two events, the cut occuring when the two sets of teeth are fully closed, i.e. they close on scene one, open on scene two.

There wouldn't be a wipe, as such. And it would be a pain in the butt to do if you were going to do it a lot. But it would serve your purpose and probably be "easier" then creating a real wipe (which I don't know how to do).

I see what your saying, I'll play around with that. Thanks.

OK I've not had any luck getting the effect I'm looking for. Does anyone know of a plugin? I basically want a barndoor wipe coming from the top and bottom of the screen only having a sawtooth border. . .

Animate the teeth as white on black. Then, use it as a mask/parent track over the video you want to wipe INTO. This video must be above the video you want to wipe OUT of.

Thank You, Gonn go give it a try now.

Real quick and dirty .veg file at http://www.changedcrocodile.com/Films/jaws.veg

For Vegas 7. IF you don't have that, I can re-do it in v6 (tomorrow).

When you open it, it will complain about not finding "new track 2.avi" Just replace that file with whatever you have handy.

Take a look at the two tracks above the actual video track. All done with Masks and keyframes. (Click the Pan/Crop effect at the right-hand side of the events...the little boxy thing.)

You'll get the idea.

Or do what David said. :) Sounds simpler.

I have Vegas 6 still but thanks for sending it. I should probably have upgraded to 7 by now.

I'm still having trouble with getting this to be an actual wipe. I did what you said before Gen and it actually works once when I go to black, but I'm still trying to get the actual wipe to work.

If you get a second to send it in 6 that would be great. I really appreciate the help.

http://www.changedcrocodile.com/Films/jaws6.veg for the v6 version.

Ah. Also, if you look at the Masks for both tracks, they'll both appear to be coming from the top. I used Track Motion on one to invert it 180 degrees... Just to confuse you. :)

Or maybe because it's 3:30 a.m. here and I should be asleep.

Nice-Thanks Gen? Jer? Dan? 3:30, sheesh! I didn't want you to not sleep because of me. Thanks so much!
