I am new to this group. I am about to start a football season and I will be working with the HVX-200 and the Firestore. What would be the best setting to create breath taking slo-mo. This camera is will be caputring field cam level action. I have been video taping for five years with Sony DSR-170 in sports. I have made the commitment to work with tapeless I just want to bring my coverage to the next level. I will be testing Aug 25th during a scrimmage but if I can get some help from anyone I would be thankful. I have heard 720 at 60 frames would be best.

Yup 720 60p would capture the smoothest slo mo when playing back at 30p or 24p. Its also a very smooth and pleasing look for sports when played back at 60p. I think this is how fox does football? not 100% but I heard some networks use 60p for their sports in HD

Yes, storage permitting, I would shoot 60P throughout.
You can convert it to 30P or 60i to keep it realtime, but if you want to slow down the action, just have your NLE not drop every other frame, and you get butter-smooth slowmo.
Do some tests with your editing tools now to figure out the best workflow -- some NLEs make this process easier than others.

I shot a full season football recruiting DVD with the HVX200.
I set one of the scene files to 720/24pn over 60 and occasionally shoot to it to p2 cards.
A new version firmware of the FS-100 should handle this natively.

Is the new firmware 3.0?

If you want crisp looking action while shooting slow motion have a higher shutter speed. It will have less motion blur.

No I am not filming Anoka....
Holy Angels, Edina, Holy Family. The Holy Angels is getting the HD treatment. They have gave full artistic control. The other two I am sending 2 camera crews to both but will be shot in SD. We are using Sony 170,150 and the other are 2 GL2'S not fond of the Canon cameras but I seen the quality and it is nice and crisp. We are also getting a local business to fund a game of the week. We are planning to post that on line.. We'll see?
