Daphne Loves Derby
"Stranger You and I"
Dir: Noah Shulman
DP: Matt Workman
Visual Effects: Noah Shulman
Notes: Shot on HVX and a green screen. All the visual effects were done in After Effects in about 2 weeks. All the assets were hand painted watercolors and illustrations. I will try and get a higher res version when i'm permitted from the label to.

No problem downloading it for me. Played just like normal.
Awesome video! I wasnt sure what to expect from looking at the posted stills, but I really enjoyed the use of greenscreening. That was some great work in post. I cant really say anything bad about it at all. My only thoughts were that maybe the vignette was a little strong on the clown/girl shots and the key looked like it left a bit of a shadow, which actually worked for me since there was such a difference between the cg environment and real people. Nice work!

Didn't work in firefox on a PC. I click and it looks like it starts to go somewhere and then nothing.
Nevermind got it to work... Looks good.
Looks like it took a long time for those graphics.

Yeah that site is fishy...You can view it now through my blog, when permitted i will try and post a higher res file for you guys, as well as uploading to myspace/youtube. Thanks, i had to shoot that stuff while being jetlagged from a 13hr flight. I ended up doing all the visual effects in about 2 weeks from start to finish.
For those of you having problems check it out at:

I enjoyed it.
The oil-panting type effect got a little old but it was entertaining enough to watch all the way through.
The fact that the video is tricky to play is probably why you only have 2 comments.
Edit your first post to have a better site and more people will give input.

I know that sometimes ya get lots of views and no comments so that can be frustrating. I too think it was a bit flat in that it was the same look the whole way without much variety. The thing that gets me though is the guy with the baseball cap turned sideways in the photo. That's some whack stuff there and always makes me cringe.. maybe I'm just on the other side of the generation gap though.. lol
cheers and it's definitely something I couldn't do on the graphics end. I'd just say to vary it up a bit or it ends up like that Skycaptain movie which was impossible to watch for story/ content even though it looked so cool...

Thanks for the comments thus far, aside from Justyn's comment because that person with the hat is me. I don't understand how that's a critque or in relation to my video, and wasn't neccessary to say IMO.

I figured that was you.
If you are going to beg for comments then you should be able to accept all of them in a mature manner.

wasn't a critique and sorry if it came across but an observation so take it as a grain of salt. Just kind of a laughable fashion sense maybe, but again I'm old as dirt now so what do I know...
The other part was an attempt at a constructive comment though... It's also tough to get people to go wow over your footage when there's some amazing stuff that comes through here on the graphics side. Like that thing Anders did with the soldiers.. or this one: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=106517 I mean, it's nice, but I think you were expecting people to drop dead with how awesome it is. There's some amazing stuff that comes through and yours was nice, but not mindblowing like the ones above..
I know I get some mediocre or incredulous responses to my edits. and I'm just a shooter/editor and couldn't do anything like what you did so that's some consolation there..

This is my last straw on this website. Sorry bro, you're being flat out rude and insulting my personal "dress" and "taste" It doesnt matter if you're old or not, it's absolutely innapropriate. Sorry but there's really nothing constructive, you're just throwing links on my post and insulting me further. Who had a bad day today buddy? My video isn't supposed to be a mindblowing display of my skills in after effects, it is supposed to take you on a visual journey that incorporates motion graphics with organic materials. Simple. I feel like you are attacking when all i wanted was useful critique of my video. Isn't what this website is for, or was for?

sorry ya feel that way. Wasn't meant like that or meant to be rude. People see what they want to see and that's all that popped out to me for good or bad. Your piece is nice and I can understand how upset it would be to show it and get no feedback. It happens all the time, but don't give up on this site. Been a great resource to most of us for a long time and sometimes ya gonna get a crackpot like me saying one thing or another... then another person will come along and say something different or enlightening or will get inspiration from you completely. It's also a site where ya have to be able to take a joke and be willing to accept others opinions however misguided and such.
I checked out your videos and ya got the chops and skills so who cares what I say or anyone else. Glad ya posted it andkeep on posting it but you'll get opinions and comments that are both good and somewhat obtuse... No harm though and no foul ..

Just watched it, I loved it. I am at work so I watched with no sound but the intro was GREAT! Very well executed effects and I like the color pallet as well. Nice job. Do you not DP your vids anymore?
