Instead of giving clients the actual tape of their performances, I want to give them a DVD of it, but i want them to have the option to take what's on the dvd and be able to import that footage into whatever editing program they have.

Is there an option that allows playback AND easy importing to a computer hard drive?

If not, what's the best render/file output to use so they can just put the dvd in their computer, grab the file, and edit with near uncompressed quality?

There isn't really a good option here. Good playback and easy importing aren't really compatible.

You can just put regular old .avi files on a disk, but you won't get over 20min or so per DVD, or you can put mpeg-2 files on the disk, which will give you much more room but be a pain to edit comparatively. If you put mpeg-2 files on it, don't author a DVD, just burn a data disc so then can click and drag to their computer. These won't be playable in a regular DVD player.
