The following link gives the instructions on how to update your cameras firmware. People who are experiencing problems such as the "incompatible card" error, should follow these steps by panasonic. This is what I had to do in order to make my 16GB P2 card readable.
https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/soft/hvx200/hvx200verup_e.pdf
Once you read though a bit, and format your SD card either via computer or camera, page 2 tells you to download the driver software. Below is the direct link, just hit accept.
https://eww.pavc.panasonic.co.jp/pro-av/support/cs/csregistp2m/ep2main/soft_agree_e.htm
unzip the file and then drag the PRIVATE folder into the formatted SD card, and then just follow the instructions on page 3 of the first link.

Hmm, I just received mine today and performed the firmware upgrade. Camera says it is 4.06 yet the card still doesn't work. I have no pmcia slot for the card to test it out even...
Any ideas or do I need to send it back?

Ok so this is a kick to the balls....I have an old SD card that Ive been using for my HVX to store scenefiles and such. I go to install the firmware to the card...I format it and it says its too big for the SD card.
The card is 16mb and the update is 17.5mb....this sucks!!
What other methods were there to update the firmware without the SD card?

Might want to keep it a little more professional.
In any case, the firmware update instructions indicate that a minimum 64 MB SD card is required.
You can get these for nearly free at CompUSA.
Walmart sells a 1 GB SD card for $10.00
This is the only way to update firmware on the cam.

The good news is that there's less than $20 keeping you from solving this issue!

How do you miss the big label stuck to the card box telling you that you'll probably have to upgrade the firmware in your camera?

Because I; like many others, were just so excited that the card actually came after waiting months, opened the box and put it in my camera, to then realize the error and immediatley go on this forum and search the error. to then come accross people syaing to send it back. I posted this so those people will also see this thread and hopefully not send back a working card. :)

Iīm with you on this, the firmware update with 16GB cards and the HVX just isnīt obvious and instead of "smart" comments this thread should get the sticky status (that is, if everything on the update procedure is stated correctly...)

I'm sorry, hopefully someone can help you with that, because I don't know what's going on there.
Can someone please tell me how to delete a thread or change a thread title. I need to either change the title of this or create a new one......

a thorough cleaning of the camera.
What do you do to thouroughly clean the camera.
Listen people, if you haven't learned do the simple update yourself, you are really in for a rough time with the actual operation of this camera.

I notice you corrected the misspelled "they're" in the subject line of your actual post, so this isn't really directed at you, but since so many other people do this stuff all the time, please forgive me for the following:
English Teacher Mode: ON
Your = the possessive, as in "Your DP reel is great"
You're = a contraction on "you are", as in "You're a great guy"
-and-
There = a place, as in "Point the HVX over there"
Their = the possessive, as in "Their DP is great"
They're = a contraction of "they are", as in "They're great guys"
-and-
It's = a contraction of "it is", as in "It's a great camera"
Its = the possessive, as in "My HVX and its P2 cards are way cool"
To wit:
"As an HVX owner, you're probably as amazed as I am at how great your camera is. Its feature set is awesome, and with bigger P2 cards coming soon it's only getting better. As for all the other HVX owners out there, here's hoping they're enjoying their cameras as much as I am!"

brokenjack,
We completely detail the camera. It also includes treatment of oil absorbing materials such as the hand grip strap pad, VF Eye peice rubber and sun shade. If the focus ring and zoom ring is gritty, it will be another hour of labor ($85) to remove all of the contaminated grease, treat and rinse the plastic, and replace the grease with new.
You should also know that if you have your camera repaired or just get a cleaning, you get $10 off our long life battery. Please e-mail me for details.

I think I'm going to have to send the 16 gb p2 back. There's not even an option to format that card, it's grayed out in the menu.

Yeah, I'm sorry to hear that. I don't know why its doing that. There might actually be something wrong with the card. Wait and see what a few others have to say before you send it back. at least you have one working card though

There is no P2 Simple Check software available yet for the 16GB card. Just the 2, 4 and 8GB. I would try formatting it with P2 Viewer if possible.

So my firmware is up to date yet the card doesn't work, I can't format it via a computer because the "device fails to start" in the device manager and the drivers won't install correctly because they can't detect the card. P2 viewer or manager can't see it.
I guess it's dead, how do I go about sending it back for a new one?
4 and a half months wait for a dead card...

...no dice, just tried it in someone else's computer as well and it wouldn't recognize it. I have an address to send it back to the Rebate center, gar.

Have you updated the drivers in the computer?
EVERY device that looks at a card needs to be updated in order to work with the 16GB cards. The computers, the P2 Stores, the cameras, the 5-slot readers, everything.

This is a simple one, but someone just did this recently, so I want to make sure... Your computer has a pcmcia slot that you are using and not an expresscard slot right?

Every device is using whatever I could download from panasonic. When I go to install the drivers for the P2 card on my laptop (the cardbus choice) I get through the menu until it comes to the part where you have to remove and reinsert the card, I cannot get past that option, it just won't recognize it. Same thing happened in another computer with the same downloaded drivers.
When I try to install the drivers manually through the device manager, it makes it through but then says the "device cannot start error (10)," and won't mount the card.
With the latest firmware on the camera, it says it is an incompatible card, and the p2 manager and the viewer cannot see it when connected through USB.
Thanks for your guys' help.
