I am really at the end of the rope here guys, I have tried every posible solution in every foroum regarding vegas to AF& and then back, everything from uncompressed avi, to animation codecs, you name it and I always have problems, I use vegas 7 with raylight and have dual cores e6600 w 3 gigs of ram and well I shot some 720P greenscreen fotage to take it to AF and remove the green there, the clip is 30 sec and its 2 gigs uncompressed
now once in after effects everyting is fine but oh God when I want to bring it back to vegas, I have done everyting from exporting as animation, rendering uncompressed, you name it, well the only one that works more or less is taking it to vegas via uncompressed avi but that brings another problem, the damn clip wont play in real time not even on the lowest preview setting with no effects on!!! now what is a MOFO to do??
someone show me the light

mann I swear if it wasnt because I know vegas inside and out I would turning to another editor but that is out of the question for me
because of all the workload I have, I wish I could start all over with avid or FCP but its too late for me

What EXACTLY have you exported from AE as?

no david, in vegas to af I have not exported, only rendered as uncompressed avi, but from af to vegas I have tried exporting it as quicktime animation, nothing works only uncompressed avi but once back in vegas the damn video will not play smooth and the audio is out of sync and I know that my machine can handle it

Export a Microsoft AVI with Raylight compression and these options in Raylight: Blue, Self-contained, everything else off.

What I asked was what exactly you exported from AE, not from Vegas.
And what I mean by "exactly," is, what are the exact settings? All of them, including format, codec, frame size, pixel aspect ratio, etc.? You have to be as detailed as possible if you want help.
Also . . . have you simply tried keying the footage in Vegas itself?

We key in AE, go back and forth via cineform .. all fantastic, no problems. I know that doesn't answer your question, but it is a solid Camera->Vegas<->AE workflow

Ditto. I key in Ultra 2 but I use Cineform as my intermediary codec for my HD footage to go back and forth from Vegas. The Cineform codec is shipped with Vegas to why not use it.

I think it's a bit crazy to scream "I hate Vegas" because you may have a problem. Newsflash: if in fact you started on FCP, you'd also come across some problem and then you'd scream "I hate FCP, I wish I started on Vegas". Vegas is not perfect - no software is - but it does not justify hate... in fact, it is the most user-friendly software out there - IMHO more userfriendly than FCP (and I get paid to edit in FCP). However, I've used Vegas for my own projects and LOVE it.
One bit of advice - all software will frustrate you at some point. I've been where you are, emotionally. But I've learned that not only does "hate" not help the situation, it actively makes it worse. Try to remove the emotion out of it, and approach it as a "puzzle" - you'll be a lot better off for it. I learned that trick from my dad who is an engineer. When I was a teenager, I'd get frustrated building some piece of electronics, screaming and throwing stuff. My dad would calmly look at the problem and really get interested in it as a puzzle. He was so calm and inquisitive and took such joy at finding solutions, that it stayed with me. I always think of my dad when I get frustrated by some issue in software or a computer or what have you.
Believe me, "hate" and such negative emotions will do nothing to make Vegas "better", but will do plenty to damage your health. Have a beer, relax, hug your kids if you have any, pat the dog, take a deep breath, and think of all the good things in your life. It'll help :) :) :)

I also don't have problems with that workflow.
It's not Vegas' fault

you are so right, I guess I was just frustrated, but I kinda wish I had started with another professional editor, I think that everyone that does not edit on either avid or fcp and wants to edit to get paid is just prolonging the process because down the line you are gonn have to learn one of those two programs and I personally know some avid editors that do it for a living and they personally hate avid, the way it does things but hey it's the "industry standard"
