I feel I've finally managed to excise all the shots I wasn't totally satisfied with from my reel. I've just replaced a bunch of my reel with footage from a feature I shot, but I'd really like to change the music. Any suggestions for a new track?

Superb. You cut out so much of the Infinity Tree though, that was good work.

The silk trees stuff looks great. :)

Man... i need to get on top of my reel. Its REALLY out of date.

Great reel. Those images are beautiful. The song fits really well but it is really well known which might hurt you, I don't know much about these things. A lesser known Coldplayish band is Mae, you could try checking them out. Otherwise I love it and the music doesn't matter too much when you have images like that.

this is good work man. i've never heard that song before personally. was that an m2 adapter used for most of that stuff?

BRILLiANT. Love that it's all in the same motif and fits so beautifully. Such a nice mood piece and just captivating indeed. The only thing I would say would be a longer shot of that Joshua Tree Timelapse. I remember seeing what you did with it before and it's so MONEY that seeing if for a few more seconds is just friggin' awesome. But that's hardly a criticism just wanting to see it more.

Inspirational to say the least. Is this just your narrative reel and do you have a more "corporate/ verite'" reel as well or are you just concentrating on bing a narrative DP?

Sweet all the way around bro!

Also... for music I'd say check out a bit of Ben Harper's library. Same mood but decidedly less well known.

I'd hire you in a heartbeat if i had the cash!....and if you were in Singapore..

I actually used to freelance in Singapore years ago with Asiaworks. Definitely liked how the government funds films there.

FilmBoy77: About 80% of the footage was with the Redrock- I have specific formats listed under my credits list.

Justyn: I've done some corporate stuff as an operator, but I've never received the footage, nor bothered to pursue that avenue. I suppose it could be a little healthier in paying the bills :undecided

I'm a big fan of Ben Harper, but I think his music is probably too mellow for a reel. I'll be sure to check out some Mae, thanks smashedburrito!

Sorry I have to ask,
is that all HVX?
Because there are some images that are superbly magnificant.
You must be very very very good.
Nice.

My host had a hiccup, but it looks like it's back up now.

I love the way you shoot. a lot of talent displayed here. I think I remember the desert stuff from awhile back and it was a clinic on how to shoot with the HVX.

the song is distracting and doesn't support the visuals IMO. I would find a powerful instrumental.

Hey David,
Great reel! It's funny; last August I took a music video summer class at USC, and at the final screening for all of the different classes they showed The Infinite Tree. I was absolutely shocked at how good your images looked; a year ago I had no idea digital could look that filmic and beautiful. Nice work!

Great footage. I love the variety of shots...shows your talent in different ways. I also liked the song, although I have heard it on at least one movie trailer recently.

Hey Graham, did you show your music video at the USC screening? I realize that they didn't have time to show everyone's work in the showcase.

Thanks for the comment cecil- I'm looking for another track to cut the reel to. I'd been considering that ever since World Trade Center came out...

wow, great job.. Thats not all HVX though right? What did you do the stuff with Ron Jeremy with, and also most of the night stuff? Great lighting!

dcarstens

Justin, in regards to your pm about compression settings, I use Compressor h.264 on medium quality and auto-keyframe. Sound is 128-bit AAC, and that normally gives me good quality for the file size.

The project with Ron Jeremy was a stock HVX project- the following thread will give you more info:
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=83260

I'd have to detail individual night shots to they're often unique, but you can usually count on a 1200w HMI Par bounced into a muslin frame to be involved somewhere.

Justin Marx

Thanks.. I was more interested to know if you shot all of the night stuff with the HVX or some other camera?

So I export my project to compressor, then I......... click on the CHOOSE SETTING.... then .....

As specific as you can be would be great.. like, step one.. step 2.... Thanks..

That was a really nice reel man. The HVX can produce some great images in the right hands.

Hey David,
Yeah they did end up showing the video I made; it was the Death from Above 1979 one with lots of effects (mouths on road signs singing, some underwater swimming, etc.).
