Greetings all,

Had the pleasure to work with a great producer/Director from Cali on her upcoming feature on the world of competitive yo-yoers. I have a few friends in the community and shot a project for Duncan a few years back with one. Got a couple of days of shooting done recently and a ton of MONEY like this. WIth and without lens flares.. but those are inevitable when shooting fisheye at around noon here in FL.

Really turned out quite well and I'll be cutting a short demo this week so there's a LOT more of this to come. Was a great time and the yo-yo people are pretty darn cool.

ENJOY:

That's f' in funny. I love the way the yo - yo comes right up to the camera. Did you measure it out perfectly to avoid hitting the lens?

nah.. just kind of know where to be.. and beg 'em not to hit the bugger... got hit a few times later but price to pay to get the money shot.

when I'm shooting with enough light like outside, I'll shoot the fastest shutter possible so it was 1/1000th of a second, probably without an ND and a 5.6 or something for aperature. I trie to mimize blown out skies and all ot fhtat too .

So, did you have the "King of Yo", Tommy Smothers in this?

Thanks all. and thanks for the grab bro. That does look sick. I did this for a documentary filmmaker from SF. She was really cool and she's raising funds to follow people around for a year on the competitive circuit. We didn't get the smoothers brother guy, BUT we got his contemporaries. The old school champions who were much better than him, but he helped to showcase the yo-yo more than anyone I think. IT's funny though that the old timers are the judges and they have 50 years of yo-yoing, but they can't stand on the stage any compete with even a 10 year old kid from Japan. Those kids are AMAZING. I'lll cut some footage together soon. I would also say that a friend I know, Steve Brown is really the man out there. Fun guy and amazing. I hope to be a part of this doc when she gets the funding as I'd get to travel the world and that's always a great gig...

They may be better, but Tommy is way funnier :)

Very true. I LOVE the SBs. The one guy we got to interview, Dale something or other, was on the show a few times with Tommy and they did some dueling yo-yo thing. Said Tommy was the nicest guy and did more for worldwide yo-yo attention than any champion ever did. So that was cool.

I agree. I even picked up yo yos after watching him do his bit. Of course, in my hands, the yo yo reverted back to it's original roots as a weapon. Man I was dangerous!

But anyways, that is exactly why I think he should be included.

You are right, but I don't think he participates in the circuit. The director has plans to try and track him or his people down. We'll see whats up.

Were you at the Worlds this week?

Well, I was in my own little world... does that count?

Justyn,

Thanks for posting your clip here! I just got that same lens and love it.

Is the filmmaker in SF still working on her project? I'd like to contribute if possible. I helped shoot this part on the National Yo-Yo Museum for TurnHere.com. It includes the largest Yo-Yo in the world.

I still haven't found a comparison between the Century .55x fisheye and the 16x9 .45x Superfisheye. (to compare wideness mainly)
I like my 16x9 fisheye but it does have tiny vignetting in the upper left top corner, like the extreme lens does.
If anyone knows of such a comparison, please link me!
I loved the Century Extreme fish vs. .55x fish comparison i found on these forums.

sweet indeed ya'll. I like shooting with a fast shutter for that exact ability to get good grabs anywhere really. I wasn't able to pull it off in the hall though.. dismal lighting everywhere even on the main stage. They had like maybe 4K of light on the stage and it just wasn't enough to make anything pop...

I saw some of the .45 footage and it really is wide.. super wide and I think more of mine as an extreme wide and not really a fish. It seems more usable and I'll never buy the .6 as my friend has that and it's crap since you have to zoom in to loose the vignetting anyway. The .75 with zoomthrough seems interesting but that's a lot for just a little bit wider.

I'll be cutting a few things together this week and hope to land another gig. This one will be a big one. Doesn't it seem now that we are hitting out stride with the HVX? I mean. I've gotten 10x more work with it this year than last year and I though I'd be slammed after I got it... Interesting times I think for all and I'm about to plunk some more cash on another toy. Any thoughts?

Seriously, Justyn. You're putting me a bad position with the wife. Now I have to let her do her "thing" (Whatever that ends up being) so I can plant the seed for the .55 purchase. ;)

But thanks! You helped me decide to grab this earlier than I had planned. :)

well it is worth it and sometimes we have to make compromises.. but maybe you should tell her that you are buying the extreme lens for 3k and then you could get the cheap fish and have a nice 2500 for more toys.

I like it! See, a man with a wife and child understands the logic. :)
