View Full Version : Too much noise on this HVX202???

Hi list,

my new HVX202 seems to be producing a lot of noise?
I am used to using a Sony HVR-z1P & was able to get good results with that, but this P2 camera seems to be giving me more of a noise problem!

The P2 footage does seem to stand up well to color grading - much better than the HDV footage from the Sony, but there seems to be an inbuilt noise that is quite heavy.

I've tried using low gain, low shutter, but still get the same results???

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Tom

Search for settings to reduce noise, but the HVX is a noisy camera. Just the nature of the beast.

Set your Master Pedestal to at least -4 & Detail Coring to +5. Even in Cine D settings it should be good with these settings. If you are looking at you stuff on a Powerbook G4 or a Macbook Pro Laptop it will look very noisy in the dark areas but it actually isn't. DVCPro HD looks noisy on these LCD's. I don't know why. Best to preview off a good CRT monitor.

You shouldnt look at anything on a LCD, as far as CC goes. the LCD gamma isnt the same as CRT/Plasma.

Cine D and Cine V are noisier than the others. Try the other gamma settings and see if you find one that you like

Ok, thanks for those tips guys! I will try some of those settings & see if that helps.
I'm using Adobe AfterEffects for color grading.
