When I turn my new HVX200 on in P2 mode it just flashes the "1" and "2" box but won't do anything else. It would not even turn off. I finally had to reset it with the power switch in the off position to get it to power down. The camera seems to work fine in tape mode. Has anyone else had this problem?

Are there P2 cards in the camera? If so, what is their capacity, and what firmware version do you have?

I have tried turning it on in P2 mode (MCR) with one 16 GB P2 in the drive and I tried turning it on without one in the drive and then putting a 16 gb P2 in the drive. I am having trouble finding the firmware version because I think the version info is found in the P2 mode menu that I can't get to. If there is another way to access the Firmware version or to update it without going into the P2 menu please let me know.

Take the P2 card out of the camera.
Turn on the camera, and when it is ready, go into MCR mode.
Bring up the menu, go to PROPERTY, and select SYSTEM INFO to display the firmware verison. You need at least V4.05 to use 16GB cards.

Thanks for the reply but when I turn on the camera it won't go into MCR mode... it won't do anything but blink; it won't even power down.

I think it's just broke.

I called Tech support and hopefully help is on the way.

Thanks to Kenny Chrysler at Showcase Photo and Video in Atlanta the issue is resolved. I bought the camera almost a month ago but didn't get a P2 for it until last week. Kenny spoke to the Panasonic rep about the problem and the they declared it an initial failure and swapped it out for a new camera. I have had nothing but great customer service and smart recommendations from these guys and I enjoy giving them my business.

JimL,
We just recently bought 6 HVXs and had to swap one out because of what sounds like a similar issue;
Turning on the camera on P2 mode, not even MCR, would bring up a viewfinder with only the safety guides up. Menu, Record, and mode check settings where unresponsive. Turning off the camera would not work, had to replace the battery.

Strangely enough the camera would work when turned off and switched to tape mode. I dropped it off at Panny yesterday and they are taking a look at it, should have an answer tomorrow.

I second the positive feedback from Panasonic, these guys are great.
