Hi all

I've just uploaded my entry and hopefully it's approved by the panel. This entry will mark my first ever dvxuser fest participation and also my first time putting up a video in these forums.

Seems like there are a couple of first-time participants as well so it seems like this is some sort of a 'festival of firsts'

I'm not going to upload any grabs just yet but below is a short credit list for this entry.

Concept: Royston (a friend of mine) & Myself
Music: Herman Witkam (you're great!)
Props: Royston
Shot & Edited: Me

The video was shot only last Monday and uploaded only a few moments ago. It's been a rather eventful week for me, putting this together while being on shoots in between and on top of that, attending a gala premier of a feature film.

All these could not have been possible without the support of my film enthusiast friend, Royston, who came up with an interesting idea out of nowhere and Herman for his hardwork and creative musicianship. Herman, tell them that you did this in almost 5 days! lol

All the best to everyone participating!

Great work, among the top. You managed to keep suspense and hide what the product is till the end and the payoff made me laugh very hard. The intercutting of the pictures of famous inventions together with the music (which reminded me of the famous track in Kubrik's "2001") really enhanced the suspence. The only thing misssing for me was a catchy slogan under the logo at the end but this is only a minor critism.

Very well done!

Thanks martin-sfx.

Zarathustra was the 2001 Space Odyssey piece I referenced for this video. Herman did a great job with the music! I went to the right person and the mood of the video would not have been what it was if not for him.

I'm still trying to figure out what this was an ad for...

I got that it helped with all these great inventions, etc.

The shots and editing were right on, and the music was fantastic!

Well Brandon, all I can say is....the product is right up there with the rest of them lol.

Very well shot. Love the smoke at the end. Could be a tad more revealing though. But I probably think so cause I'm a pretty impatient mofo.

Cool edit. I wish I had the shot at the end of my commercial.

I wish you held onto the product longer at the end... otherwise nice build up

Thanks! And the 2001 reference was meant to be obvious, of course :D

Nice Cinematography. Good visuals.... But, you didn't finish the beat, and that lost it for me...

Shoulda' cut out an extra second or two somewhere and finished the beat on the full shot of the toilet... Right as I was processing it, it ended and went away. I needed time to go "ahhhhhh ha ha". Instead I went, "...ah- wait...." :)

Thanks.
Jason

The payoff/ final shot was too short. It had no payoff.
I'm left thinking, where's the rest.
Everything before that was a work of art.
I'd love to see more.

Hehe! I think the funniest thing about this commercial for me, in retrospect, is that all the "teaser" shots of the product clearly showed all the dust and fingerprints and all the stuff that would appear yucky if you knew what the product was. Perfect job romanticizing the utterly unromantic.

However, I do have to agree that the final beat of the joke didn't play properly. Maybe this could be fixed with something as small as synchronizing the final shot to reveal just as the music gives that final crash of the symbols. Maybe it needs to linger a little longer. Maybe a voiceover talking about the history of the world's greatest inventions. Maybe the music could have gradually gotten louder -- or been less dramatic in the beginning. Who knows? Still, well done! Congrats on your entry.

Maybe the music could have gradually gotten louder -- or been less dramatic in the beginning.

Could have done that - but the epicness/the statement of something to be revealed would probably have been weaker at the beginning though IMO. Besides, TV commercials are all compressed to 0 dB digital scale anyway, so there's not much room for nuance in dynamics :)
