Do any of you have RAM, HDDs, or PROCs, sitting on a shelf or in an old computer that's not being used? The Isara charity organization is in the process of building the world's first non-profit search engine and we need any hardware you or your office can spare.
RAM - SDRAM, DDR, or DDR2
HDDs - IDE, SATA, or SCSI (any size)
PROCs - AMD, Intel (1.8GHz+)
MBs - Any AMD or Intel chipset which supports the PROCs above
We currently have 4 Linux servers, crawling more than 300,000 URLs every day, and an index of nearly 5 million pages (this includes DVXuser's websites - I grabbed the links from your sigs). Our goal is to hit 100 million URLs by the end of the year, but we need more computing power. Fortunately, this can be done by building a Linux cluster (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_cluster) made from off-the-shelf or second hand equipment.
Please help by checking around your home or office for unused hardware and notify me here, or by PM, if you can help. Thanks.
