View Full Version : Scary Purple Image! HVX image is going CRAZY!

It keeps doing this, as well. So I'll leave the camera with the mattebox on or the M2 sitting upright, and hours later when I come back home and turn the camera on, the entire image has this major purple cast over it.
I have to unscrew the M2 and it pops back proper. Or, if it's the Mattebox, I have to pop the zoom all the way out and it pops back to it's proper image.
What's going on? It only happens if I leave the camera upright, like sitting up-down and not on it's side.
If I leave it on it's side, it's fine.
ANd I destroying my camera?

Camera itself.

Are you using ATW (Auto Tracking Whitebalance)? The matte box probably covers the WB sensor.

Nah that's not it. Like it literally feels like the camera is broken when I cut it on.
No amount of white balancing or anything like that cures it. I have to like... shake the camera or do something to it to get it back to the normal image. x_x

Have you tried it without anything on the front to see if thats the problem?

i got a purple screen once, but it was more of a lens flare. Also, are you turning your color temprature and choma setting s to its extremes. that can cause exexpected color shifts.

Yeah, it doesn't happen if I let the camera sit on it's bottom with nothing on it.
only happens when I leave the adapter or mattebox on and let it sit straight up.
It's definitely not the color temp or anything, because I can change it while it's purple and nothing. I either have to detach the adapter or pop the zoom until it suddenly snaps back to it's original state.
I think I'm breaking something!

maybe the weight on the end of the lens barrel is causing an internal issue. maybe the CCD block is misaligned? or theres stress on one CCD? i dunno....

No that's actually exactly what I was thinking. The weight of the camera offset by whatever's attached at the end is misaligning something!
I just have to remember to lay it on it's side if it's still connected. But it's really scary, man.

Try plugging in an external HD TV or monitor with component cables.
My TV went purple on me last week and I discovered a loose wire. My guess is that you have a loose connection in the camera.
Capture some footage to see if the recordings come out okay?

Hey.
My new camera had a very similar problem and it turned out to be a completly defective camera. The problem was described to me as a "color shift" The camera crosses the red and blue colors.
Check out my post "New HVX200 Color shift problem"
I'm curious to see if you have the same problem.
P.S My camera had 2 hours of use on it.

Newsbykko - I didn a search for the thread you mentioned, and couldn't find it
(searched for both "New HVX200 Color shift problem" and "color shift problem" and your thread didn't come up).
Could you post a link to it?
Thanks.

Nevermind, I just found it:
Here it is (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=105664&highlight=Color+shift+problem)
The title is "New HVX200 Color shift failure?" (not 'problem' which is why I coudln't find it at first)

Please check the original link.
This may have to do with leaving the camera facing down on its lens. Both the cameras where in the same position overnight before the problem occured.

When you mean camera upright overnight, is the camera being set the way it should be, or somehow being left vertical (battery/viewfinder on bottom, lens straight up?)
Are you using the M2 and the mattebox without rods? If so, rods will probably solve the issue. As it has been stated here, it sounds like there is too much stress being placed on the lens side of the camera.

There are two different cameras with the the same problem listed here.
I'm not sure about the camera using the M2.
My camera was stored inside a Porta Brace soft case inside a wheeled hard case. If I left the hard case standing upright then the camera whould be facing down inside the case. I guess I won't do this anymore, but that is the only way to transport the HVX inside these Porta Brace cases.
The camera was in no way laying on the lens since it was fully suported.
