I have a friend in Thailand right now and he thinks he's got a group to fund a movie in Thailand...

I've been warned as long as they pay for it all then it'll be okay... if not the movie will be pirated before you can sell it else where in Asia...

But back on topic... I believe its NTSC there... so just wondering how much buying a HPX would save you... I know in production costs... its like a 40% savings...

Wonder if that would translate to the same on a camera purchase... or any other type of camera gear...

Im not sure about Thailand, but here in Japan the camera does come a little cheaper though once you factor in the p2 cards you end about the same as the package deals in the states.

Thanks for the answer...

Now if it was 40% cheaper... maybe... and if this group was real... but in the end... well just read below...

My actor friend now understands why I say never buy anyone lunch who says they'll fund your movie... all you're doing is buying someone a free lunch...

He's slowing learning the art of producing a film... or asking for money... what's that famous line "Show me the money."

Tried to tell him... after they passed over several questions I asked them in my first email with them... but he learned in the end... they had no money and by the end of the week they asked him for money... PR money... yeah right....

Okay round two...

My friend is rambling again about the Thailand group giving me money to shoot a feature in Thailand...

The PR thing was for him... to be promoted as an actor there... we'll see...

We'll use American actors... producers... dp... maybe gaffer... the rest of the crew would be Thai...

But it did bring up a few questions... so I thought I'd post just to get some feedback...

I have a Canadian post group willing to throw in all the post, except editor and composer... but the mix, color correct, final master and some effects as their investment... maybe even film out...

So we just have to find cash for talent, producer, director, etc...

No not asking for money ; ) ... but hey... no pun intended... but I could use a new barn for a studio...

Okay got to get back on track here...

I was thinking again about the workflow... since I wouldn't be doing post there... pirates... I'd be saving the footage and then taking it to Canada after the shoot...

I was wondering what would be the best way to save it...

Laptop... lost... stolen or beat up by airlines...

Are the HD DVD recorders out... I guess worse case... cable it to an HD deck... and then have HD stock to bring back...

Just some ideas to think about... if the money did come in...
