Hi

This is my first post to this forum.

This is also my first time cutting using P2/mxf as a source.

I have a fundamental type question: I'm taking over an editing project that was begun on PC using Edius. Footage was shot on HVX200, 16GB P2 cards and dumped into a PC formatted drive. I'm going to ignore the Edius project and start over. What I want to do is copy that raw footage/data into an external Mac formatted 1TB drive so I can edit the footage in FCP. Possible? Easy?

When I try to just copy straight over I get an error: "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in ___ (name of the first video file) could not be read or written. (Error code -36)." and then it stops copying.

Am I missing or forgetting something very simple?

Any basic help would be greatly appreciated. Or point me to a step-by-step even!

Thanks!

The MXF files are currently on a PC? And you want to use Windows to transfer them from the PC to a Mac-formatted drive?

Best solution is to use MacDrive for Windows.

Or, better, is to take the MXF files and transfer them back to the P2 card(s) if you still can.

Is that same file readable in its entirety on the PC? It sounds a bit like a disk error to me -- that or there is a sharing violation that results from having the file open in Edius or P2 Viewer or something.

One thing you can do in Edius is export the project as an EDL (an Edit Decision List). This would allow you to at least start off on the Mac with essentially the same cuts etc.

You can also use the Consolidate tool in Edius to export just the assets that are actually being used by the project. You can define the amount of padding so that you can adjust the cuts within that margin.
