Recently got a PAL HVX and don't fully understand the 1080i 25p/50i setting. Does 1080i 25p create real progressive scan and does it give the best quality progressive picture or is that 720p? Also is there a res difference between those settings. Basic question I know but shooting a couple of things over the next few months and dont feel confident of getting the best from the camera. any ideas?

Yes it's true progressive scan, and yes it's the best-quality progressive, and yes there's a (small) resolution difference.

Thanks - thats the answer I wanted to hear! Is the (small) difference on the negative in terms of resoltion in 25p compared to 50i at 1080?

1080/25p & 1080/50i resolve the same. 1080/25p holds about a ~20% resolution advantage over 720/25p.

Thanks Barry that clarifies things for me and I can go on and shoot HD progressive in confidence.
