I am a bit new at this. When I first used my Firestore 100gb with my HVX 200
it seemed to be recording clips. I have recently arrived in Venice Italy to do some work on an art exhibit here. I set up to record directly to the Firestore without a P2 card in the hole. The problem is that in HD format with the camera set to P2, (not tape), I just get a flashing P2 card icon on the left side of the viewfinder. It does not seem to acknowledge the record button. Not sure what I did differently when I first got the gear because it seemed to work. I just have the camera and the FS 100, and no P2 cards. Hopefully this will work for what I am doing. Is there a setting I am not doing properly?
Thanks in advance for any help.

It sounds like the camera's 1394 control hasn't been assigned.

In your camera menu go to 9. Other Functions. Be sure that 1394 Control is set to EXT.
On the FS-100, be sure that in the Control submenu that you choose "Tapeless". Under the Functions submenu you should be able to use "FA Sync" or "FA Tapeless".
You'll still get the flashing P2 symbol, but when you hit the record button, you should notice a red dot beside 1394 on your camera lcd. You will (should) also notice the counter running on the firestore lcd.

Good luck and enjoy Venice!

Any reason you are starting a second thread with the same question when you have responses for the first question?

"Right, go to the "other functions" menu and choose the 1394 "EXT" option."

Thanks for this response. I did these settings and now when I hit record on the camera it now flashes 1394 disconnect and still does not begin recording.
I tried a different firwire cable to the FS 100 and still getting the 1394 disconnect in the middle of the screen flashing in white
