Hey guys and gals,
Note that there is a 5 year warranty on your HPX500 if and only if you register your camera at the following website within 30 days of purchase.
http://panasonic.biz/sav/pass_e
Not only will this give you the extended warranty, but it signs you up for advisories on software updates and the like.
Please take a few minutes and do this painless chore and get those extra 4 years!
Best,
Jan

Jan,
Forgive me if this has been discussed, but why doesn't the HVX200 and P2Store fall into the P2 program exactly? Great idea for people just jumping in, but I'm wondering why the earliest adopters of P2 are seemingly ignored from the extended warranty standpoint.
FWIW, we'll be enjoying the benefits of the PASS program on our HPX500s.

It is because of the moving parts issue.
I have asked for something for the HVX but so far it is a program we haven't been able to finish. Hopefully soon.

Got it. FWIW, we never use the moving parts on our HVX200 or the P2Store. Does the little door count as a moving part?
Actually, I lied, we have used the zoom lens motor once or twice.

Yeah it is the lens, the drive motors, the DV drive, and the HDD in the P2 Store.

Hi Jan,
I received my HPX500 yesterday and am having trouble registering it using the website link. I get the message "out of date - contact Panasonic."
Do you have any thoughts or alternative links?
Thanks,
Mark

I understand the factory folks have stepped in and helped you out in this.
If that is not true, please let me know, but everyone over here seems to think that you now have a registered camera.
Best,

Hi Jan,
I just try to register but it doesn't go to step 4 when hitting 'next step'
BTW I live in the caribbean, does that give me the warrenty?
Thanks
Jan: I bought my camera early, from the first batch that Ables/Burbank received.. I also had a lot of trouble registering (as above) and finally had to have Jerrod at Ables do it for me...
Even now I am unsure that I am truly registered because I never receive any notices from Panasonic about firmware upgrades - or anything else for that matter. I still receive monthly notices from Sony (although I sold my DSR300 over 3 years ago), and the same with Canon.
Is Panasonic just not as communicative about their pro support? - or should I worry that my registration never took effect?

You do get at least one email back at some point confirming your registration. But no, there isn't much in the way of direct user/owner feedback from Pana. At least, I haven't rcv'd much beyond that reg confirmation.

Hi Mac,
If you have never received any confirmation the I would be concerned. You could send an email to pbtsservice@us.panasonic.com to double check whether you are or are not signed up.
Hope that helps,
Jan
PS. That is Abel Cine Tech, named after the brothers Abel. I only point it out because people search for a dealer and if it isn't spelled right they won't find them.

I have tried several times to register my HPX500 via the web and never received a reply. Is there an alternate option?

Follow my suggestion above and ask the folks in the service center to help you.

Jan

OK Jan, what is it now, now you write pbtscservice.com thats not an email adress
I think you mean pbtscservice@us.panasonic.com
Jan: I guess I wasn't clear - I did receive an auto-reply (email) the day that I registered my camera, but I've never received a fimware upgrade announcement or service bulletin or any other correspondence since... Is this normal?
As for the "Ables" thing, I've owned Aaton super16 cameras for over 25 years, so they'll always be Ables to me.. I understand your internet HTML concern though..

I've never received any upgrade announcement either and my camera has been registered since day 1. I've only heard about updates on this site and then I fire up P2 Status Logger or whatever it's called and upgrade the firmware.

Since there has been no serious firmware upgrades that would be needed by your camera, not getting any announcements is normal. The small things that have been out there are minor things.
Not to worry,
Jan
