I joined dvxuser.com after lurking for a while, and I've learned quite a bit from this forum. It's great to be here! :)

I'm thinking about buying a DVX100B but I was wondering if you can capture to your computer through firewire using your NLE instead of using DV tapes. Is that possible?

I read that you can do this with the HVX200 but the price for that camera is way to high for my budget right now.

Is their a current rebate offer for the DVX100B and the HVX200, if so, how much is the rebate and when will the offer end?

I was looking online for the DVX100B but thanks to this great forum I will not be buying it from eBay or any other unauthorized dealers. On that note, are B&H and Spec-Comm authorized dealers? I've read a few posts from someone that works for spec-comm stating that dvxuser.com members get a discount. How much is the discount?

I'm a film student so I have to budget everything! So buying a camera is a HUGE investment for me. I'm just trying to find the best deal.

:dankk2:

Yes, but of course you're then tethered to the computer. A lot of people like DV Monitor (www.RedLightningSoftware.com) for Macs or dvrack (I think) for PCs.

I would not hesitate to buy from B&H, I have bought alot of Canon DSLR gear from them, and just bought an HV20 CC from them. I also bought my Panny Plasma from them, I believe they are first rate. I think they are pretty much authorized for all the gear they sell... I can't answer your other questions though. As always though do your DD and check out the resellerratings.com website.... if you a see a deal that looks too good to be true, you can be sure that it is a scam/baitswitch.

Good luck, Tom

I don't plan on going to crazy with the camera, so being tethered to a laptop doesn't seem like an issue to me. Although that might change in the future I'll just find a way to adapt.

I didn't know about DV Monitor so thanks for the link iain! DV Rack was purchased by Adobe and is now called "OnLocation CS3" IIRC. I'm curious, does anyone here use ScopeBox http://www.scopebox.com/ ? It's similar to DV Monitor and has a lot of the same functions.

@tcdrushgeddy

B&H seems promising, they have a lot of gear on their site! I can't wait to get my hands on this camera.

Thanks for the replies guys!
