I have all my camera hooked up via firewire, all my settings and presets are set, however I keep getting a message stating that it cannot initialize the video deck but it does state that I can go ahead and log offline clips or Capture Now! I have color bars in my viewer and at the bottom it says NO COMMUNICATION.
How can I correct this?
If you have another firewire cable, switch out the cables and see if that's your prob. If not, or it isn't your prob, then try quitting FCP, tunring off your camera, wait 5-10 seconds, turn camera back on, wait another 5-10 seconds, then start up FCP again. Sometimes FCP just doesn't like to find a new camera when its aready running.

The problem was the front port on my G5. When I hooked up my FW cable to the back of the tower, FCP recognized my camera! Not sure why it didn't with the front FW 400 port.
