Am I going to have to install DVD Studio Pro on my system to output my final product from Final Cut Pro 4.0 to a DVD? I thought I was going to be able to do it with the Superdrive on my G5 but apparently it will only work when you edit something in iMovie using the iDVD software that came with my system.

I havent read anything in my FCP manual saying you can output to DVD either but I figured you could somehow.

FCP is specifically for editing the piece. However, I'm sure that you can use iDVD to make a simple DVD of your project. iDVD can take any quicktime file, not just those made with iMovie. So basically you can output a quicktime file of your finished project from FCP, import it into iDVD, and bingo!

I think I will just get the DVD Studio Pro software because I want to broadcast some work locally and they told me that they can air projects on DVD as well Beta and SVHS.

But they don't accept digital formats? miniDV, etc.? Odd...

yea i know go figure! I think DVD will be my best option based on what I have seen aired on that channel! Everything looks like a bad VHS tape! Now if I my DVX100 footage that was edited in FCP ends up looking like that then its definitely their machines that they are broadcasting with.

Give iDVD a try before you jump to DVD Studio Pro. It's a great little program, and for the price...well you can't go wrong.... ;D

I would add that for simple little run-offs of a project, iDVD is pretty cool.....and works suprisingly well.

It certainly doesn't have all of the bells and whistles that DVDSP has, but sometimes they aren't even necessary....all depends on what you need I guess.
