Hi All,
I'm new to the DVX user community but have been impressed with all the sharing of info.
I have recently purchased a used Century Optics 4x4 Matte Box without the 12mm Rod Support system. Can anyone recommend a good manufacturer as there is varying info about needing a lift to support the MB on a tripod.
Thanks! Ron S

Well, most all matteboxes that can mount to rod support systems can mount to any rod system. But I've never heard of a 12mm rod system before.

Chances are real good that the rods are 15mm in diameter.

Thanks for the reply. I measured the diameter of the bracket holes which the rods would fit and they measure out to be 12mm. Is that what determines the specs for 12 versus 15mm? I have seen B&H sell the Century Optics 12mm rod support but not certain if I will have to purchase the lift in order for that system to attach onto my tripod.

the only thing is that if you get 12mm rods, alot of other attachements are on 15mm rod systems, like follow focuses, 35mm adapters...in which case your rod system might not cut it. But if thats what you NEED to mount your matte box ofcourse get them, unless you buy a different matte box.

It might be an idea to buy 15mm rods and insert 12mm rods into the tips on one end - the matte box is the end of the line, so it'll be more versatile - either that or re-drill your matte box.

Fantastic tips! I'm going to purchase a 15mm rod support and modify accordingly. enough mechanists around I can go to if need be to modify. take another victory lap y'all! Couldn't have thought it through this well by myself. ~rs
