Does it make any difference to the quality of capture if the 10 bit codec is used for editing instead of the standard AppleDV Compressor. Obviously this will create huge files so it would have to make a real difference. And is it possible to capture 10 bit through firewire on a G5 anyway?

You have to capture through a card like cinewave, decklink or IO use the 10 bit codec. For things like keying and heavy graphics- or image processing it's worth it. I'm doing a keying job in 10 bit right now and the edges look cleaner. For simple cuts and dissolves its not. Maybe a blowup to film would be worth it as well-
