Hi,

Does working with 25p need to be converted in any way for FCP ?
Would I need to use cinema tools or is 25p good to go as with normal dv footage 50i footage ?

Also - what are the advantages of 24 advanced etc ?
I have just got my camera last week - so Do I have 25p advanced ?

Cheers for any info or related links ;)

Good question. * I think the simple answer is to cut as if it is normal PAL 50i video.

The advantage of PAL is that it is a true 25 frames per second, instead of 29.97 in NTSC. * * Since a pulldown isn't needed for a 25 to 25 ratio - I would assume there is no 25P Advanced on the PAL version of the DVX.

However, it may be more complicated if you intend to transfer your final edit to 35mm film for 24fps projection.
My understanding is that most European labs and post-houses transfer film dailies at 25fps, speed up the sound by 4%, and let the NLE slow things down to 24fps for editing. *I think there is also an alternate PAL 24fps pulldown pattern that adds 1 field every 12 frames, making up one extra frame every second - but I don't think it is used too often.

I'll do more research for you, but in the meantime if you aren't planning on a film transfer - just cut in 50i like usual.
