Has anyone upgraded their G4 to a faster after market motherboard and processor. I remember seeing some thing about this on one of the DVXuser forums...but could not find.

Was it you Dashwood?

Any links and advice would be great.

My Powerlogix Powerforce Series 100 Dual G4/1.2Ghz will arrive next week. $899 US

I'll let you know how the upgrade goes next week. I'm stoked because my current G4 is only 400Mhz.

I upgraded my G4 733 Digital audio to the Giga Design 1.42Ghz unit a while back and it's been really reliable. 100% compatible with Panther and I'm just about to upgrade to the Dual processor unit. BTW, steer clear of the Powerlogix processor upgrades as I had lot's of problems with the heat. I had to return three defective units and gave up on them.

And for impartial advice check out Mike Beedons site http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/g4reviews.html

You should definitively check out OWC the retailer http://eshop.macsales.com/Specials/XLR8YourMac.cfm

Thanks for the heads up - but I ordered my Powerlogix Dual 1.2 a couple of weeks ago from OWC!

I hope I don't have any heat problems. These newly designed G4 chips are supposed to run cooler than before ( I hope.)

My upgrade has arrived. I am going to shut down after I post this message, update my firmware, and install the new processor. It is almost 9:30PM. I will post my results as soon as I finish. If you don't ever hear from me again, then something has gone terribly wrong! ;)

WOW!

That was atually really easy. *I took my time and it only took 20 minutes to do.

A couple of things were a little confusing:

The manual says stuff like "remove the heat sink retainer clips" but doesn't tell you how (screwdriver, fingers, pressure, etc.)

Also, the manual told me to "make sure the airfolow indicator on the fan is in the proper direction" but there was no indicator. * I think I mounted it correctly though.

Things just scream now. *What a difference going from single 400Mhz to dual 1.2Ghz !!!!

Great news Tim,
I am going to order in the new year, more power damn it.
I bet FCP 4 really flies now.

Have a great Christmas Tim.
