how do you guys attatch you field monitors/LCD screens to your rig ? I have an idea .. i just thought maybe you guys have a simpe solution or would have some pics to share how you guys have done it. It would really be appriciated. My only convern is that my 7" LCD might be a little heavy and i'm not quite sure how i am going to support it ( properly ).Heres what i'm doing. Its still very rough but i thought i'd show how its coming along I used an L bracket wich i mounted onto a board in with i will mount the monitor onto, i had a small base plate with the same thread size for DV cams ( lucky ey ) wich holds the bracket under the HV20. The L bracket is thick so it wont have any dramas with the weight ( not that the 7' monitor will weigh all that much ) i am going to give the board a good sand papering ( you can see on the back side it really needs it:eek:) and paint it matt black befor i mount the screen, but i think it will work out pretty well. I've included some pics to show how its all coming along, hopefully will be painted by tomorrow and will post pics again, and once my screen comes ( flat scren LCD ) i will mount it and post the final product :) Let me know what you think !

Welll its simple and does the job so the goal is achieved. Wondering if those bands might slip though. How about etching some grooves at the top and bottom of the board to keep them in place?
Does that monitor have some kind of mount? You may be able to fashion something that just connect your metal bar to it?
Oh and of course - paint it black!

lookin good. i think it would be pretty cool if you just flipped the L bracket so it was facing down, and then bent it upwards, that way the screen is below the camera and pointing up, so you still have full access to your camera. Not sure if that makes sense or would even work. Its late. long day.

Ok. Marty,
I'm always up for new and innovative methods to do things, so nice work.
But my I suggest to do it with a piece of aluminum rather than wood.
I know its more expensive, but it would be lighter and would look much better.
Just a thought.

thats a grat idea but like you said $$$, though it is a little heavy (wooden version). how much do you think a piece of aluminum the same size and thickness would cost ?

if you want 1/4" aluminum you can get a piece from www.mcmaster.com (http://www.mcmaster.com):
8"x8"x1/4" aluminum for $18.07 Part No. 89155K22 (http://www.mcmaster.com/itm/find.ASP?tab=find&context=psrchDtlLink&fasttrack=False&searchstring=89155K22)
or
12"x12"x1/8" aluminum for $13.51 Part no. 88895K36 (http://www.mcmaster.com/itm/find.ASP?tab=find&context=psrchDtlLink&fasttrack=False&searchstring=88895K36)
I would think the 1/8" piece would work strength wise (and keeps weight down), but if you are worried, the 1/4" will definitely do.

Thanks for the photos doby, but its hard to see the actual attachment. you might want to zoom in on the actual connection and bracket and turn the lights on. even if the monitor image is compromised.
Thanks.

Ooops, my bad. I did not think about the actual attachment because it just came standard with my LCD. But here is a pic and I will also see if I can find a link for the same type of attachment (sold separately)

What LCD is that?
Where did you get it?
Where did you get the attachment?
EDIT--
Found it-- http://stores.ebay.com/LCD4Video -- Is that resolution weird or what? I wonder how it looks SD-Svideo out HVX, just something to have when you can't be around for larger field monitor.
And a review from a DVXuser-- http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showpost.php?p=935950&postcount=18
Too bad I didn't find that before I ordered. Time to call the Bank first thing in the morning to stop it!
I'll just find an iKan somewhere or rent. =\

Yhea, the LCD is truly only good for framing the shot. You can flip it up side down and run it off a 12V battery pack.. It includes the hotshot mount and a ton of wires and other attachments. But I would not use it for exact focus pulling..

Anyone got any arm-type solutions for mounting monitors? On rails? The named brands sure cost a lot.

I bought a noga arm from film tools. $189 for that. and a cartelini clamp to mount it to my rails. for $50.
So yes, its a little expensive, and also weight is an issue, but I like being able to re-position my monitor very quickly. Those noga arms are great.

The Noga's a lot cheaper than I expected it to be at Nebtek. I'm thinking about trying out one or two things from HomeDepot though.
A cross bar with a slot down the center x 2 plus a few fittings shouldn't come out to more than 25.00.
I'll let ya know what I find.
