View Full Version : Req: Advice for shooting slow motion with DVX100B

Hi. I'll be picking up my DVX100B in a few weeks and had a question about slow motion. I know the HVX has a ton of frame rate options, but can the 100B pull off similar effects with native techniques? I've used slow motion effects before with software in post and I was never happy with the results.

I want to try some test shots with shooting miniatures and the only convincing way to get that is with shooting at a higher frame rate and slowing that down to 24 frames.

Any advice would be appreciated,

Dave

much lighting and put up the shutter to maximum... and shoot interlaced i guess.

Shoot 60i at 1/120 shutter, and bring it into a 24p project at 40% speed. You'll have field-for-frame accurate slow motion, but it'll be lower resolution.

Or shoot 30p @ 1/60th and bring that in frame-for-frame into a 24p project.

hmm what if you shoot pal?

But don't forget you must capture the 60i footage at 29.97 with no pull down. Than bring it in your 24p timeline with your other footage.

If you shoot pal 1/100 shutter or higher at 50i and then slow down in post.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try a few things about with those tips and see what happens.

I want to put a reel together of effects shots, and I thought some old school miniature / model sequences might be fun. The whole experiment will probably at best look like 60's sci fi - or it'll be a total waste of time :-)

Can someone explain field-for-frame and frame-for-frame? I have a music video shoot coming up that I want to do this for. Do you know what speed I would need to make the music playback to get it to be in sync but still slow motion? Thanks.

after effects can do that. go to layer > time > enable time remapping. from there you can manipulate it in basically any way that you want.

Yes, I read something about that, unfortunately I don't have aftereffects. I gotta do it in FCP.
