Apologies if already covered, couldn't find anything in the search.
whilst filming yesterday the DVX 100b; went from a state of working perfectly, then whilst i was changing angle open the LCD it stopped. The screen was all black, the eyepiece was registering nothing as well.
Sound was coming through just fine. Figuring that there was something wrong i pressed the preview button. the last second came up fine, i then put the camera in VCR made, rewound, that was ok as well when played back.
I then recorded a few seconds, nothing.
It would appear that the video is not making it from the lens to the brain of the camera. the machine has 128 hrs on it, i brought it @ 90hrs and the intervening has been fine.
My friend has suggested that it is a blown fuse. It was not dropped, i baby as much as possible but we are also working.. there was a lot of pollen in the air, and there had been a couple of spots of rain earlier. (shooting in the bush)
BTW i need to get it a good raincoat any ideas?
As it stands the camera has been dropped off at the repair shop, they will not be looking at it till next Tuesday at least.
Is this a classical Fault? Can i fix it myself? was scheduled for shooting next Tuesday. Mighty inconvenient. I always have a backup for my still cameras, obviously it is the same with video,
Thanks for any thoughts
Kris

you close your iris when you moved the screen?

you close your iris when you moved the screen?
Not quite sure what you mean by that, when i finished the shot, i closed the LCD turned the camera off, then repositioned, the gap in time would have been about 2-3 minutes. Only when i opened the screen again and turned the camera back on that it then was not working.
Just called the repair place, they have not even looked at the machine yet.

If you had the iris on manual and moved the wheel you can close the iris making the image black...

Alright i am off to pick up my camera. All the info that i could get out of the repair place was "we reset the camera to the factory settings, all is working ok"
Did i miss some stupid thing ? they cleaned the Drum as well, is this the same as cleaning the heads?
Thanks
K

Ok i am an idiot.
It was the iris, thanks webdog, won't be making that mistake again. $85 was not much, but the day lost shooting was worth way more.

I've done the same thing before, I was in the studio getting ready to shoot and had no image.... So now if there is no image i always know what to check.

If you get mo audio to your head phones but you get levels, check your volume under the LCD... Was shooing a convention and was unable to get audio took me about 10 min to figure that one out. :P

Unfortunately the only way to learn this is to have them happen to you, Learn from your mistakes.
