Can someone explain to me how I can center text in FCP? Let me clarify that I know how to place text in the center as far as lining it up but for some reason when I type the text in the Controls box then switch over to Video to see what it looks like its never centered. I want to be able to move the text up so it utilizes the top part of the screen in the event I need to type something that would take up the bottom part of the screen and so far, it just takes up the bottom and I can't figure out how to move it up some. I am NOT using Lower 3rd either. Another thing happened that was strange. I type up my credits and had them scroll up the screen. I went to my Motions tab and changed the speed from 100% to 50% and when I played it back it seemed like it shot up the screen so quick! I reduced it to 30% and that too seemed fast! I am not sure what to do in either case. I have done both in the past (pushed text up to the top of the screen, and performed slow scrolls for credits, etc.) So I am not sure what I am doing wrong now.

Try the Boris filters that come with FCP. You have a lot more control over them than the generic character generators that Apple's been shipping since v.2.
There's "Title 3D" and "Title Crawl", the latter will give you the scrolling credit effect with varying results.

Is the Boris located in the same location as the others?

You can access it through your viewer or through the effects bin. It's quite easy to use and totally key frame-able.
