View Full Version : Tape plays on DVX-100B not on Sony VX-2000

Hey,

I searched the forums but couldn't find any posts that could really answer my question.

I shot a couple tapes recently. When I played the tapes back on my DVX-100b the first tape was fine, but the second had intermittent sound and a "skipping" picture.
I put both tapes in my Sony VX-2000 (what I use to capture) and both of the tapes played like the 2nd one on the DVX.

So I used a tape cleaner on the DVX and recorded another tape. This tape played fine on the DVX but not on my Sony.

This concerns me greatly. I don't want to have tapes that only play in one deck. I should add that other tapes I've shot on this camera playback fine on the Sony. Even tapes I recorded just a few days before I started having this problem.

Any thoughts? Just a case of dirty heads? I'm taking it in to be serviced anyway but I'd like to have a little idea of what the problem might be so I don't get talked into buying new windshield wipers and break pads.

;)

Thanks in advance!

Best,
Marc

A bad batch of tapes? Possibly. I got about 5 boxes of the Panasonic 63PQ's and only the last few tapes I shot have this problem.

Is it not recommended to capture using a non Panasonic deck?

Thanks,
Marc

Hey, are you using LP recording mode, by any chance. There is no standard for LP, so LP recordings don't usually play on anything but the cam they were recorded on.

Just checked and I'm shooting SP. Could the DVX heads be leaving dirt on the tapes and the Sony heads are just picking it up where the DVX's are not?

I would say the problem is due to the Sony camera but other tapes I've shot on the DVX, recently and from a while back, play on the Sony.

Hmmmm...

yeah, I wonder this, If i put a panny tape in a son cam where I previously ran sony tapes, then brought that "tainted" tape back to the dvx, does that fuck up the heads?
