Im looking for any info explaining step by step the workflow for making 24P DVD's from footage that was shot in 24pa mode using Final Cut Pro 4. After alot of research the way I understand it as of now is I basically need to first remove the 2:3:3:2 making it a true 24P file and put it on the time line. Next I edit the footage how I want it. Finally, as usual, I create a MPEG 2 file (60i because I guess you can't play a NTSC DVD with anything but a 60i file) of the footage to burn on the DVD but this time I add something called "flags" into the encoding which some how signal the DVD player to play the 60i MPEG 2 file progressively at 24 fps.

Correct me if Im wrong and if you have a link explaining what "flags" are, what they are doing and exactly how to add them.

Thank you ahead of time.

I'm not an authority- I'm just getting up to speed with FCP 4.0 in many, many ways. But...

I made a 24P DVD last week, and here's how I did it:

1. Set your project up as a 24p project all the way through
2. Capture your DVX footage with the "remove 2:3:3:2 pulldown" setting
3. Edit in 24p
4. Compress your MP2 video at 24p and burn the DVD

DVD players are made to automatically add 3:2 pulldown so the 24p material can be played back on a NTSC set; I did not have to add any other flags, nor did I have to convert the 24p edit into 60i in the compression stage. The DVD player does all that for you on playback.

Hope this helps,
+Steve

Thank you for the info. It should really help. Whats the name of software you used to make your DVD?

Next- Making anamorphically shot footage (2:35) into a anamorphic DVD. I think I should have a handle on this one. Thanks again.

I'm using DVD Studio Pro 2.0, which rocks. I have Vegas & its companion DVD software at work. To be honest, I'm finding it a little bit easier to work with using 24p material.

Did you just import your 24p video into DVDSP2 or encode in Compressor first before import?

I used Compressor to create the 24P MPEG-2 file for use in the DVD.

I treid this and when I imported it into DVDSP it says it is 29.97.

Yeah, I tried too and the files show up in DVDSP 2 as 29.97.

(And I checked the m2v files in Quick Time Pro, they're definitely 23.98)
