Confused AND befuddled, how's that? Specs: 100B 24pA for main shots; Sony HDR-HC7 60i for backup and slo-mo; FC Studio1; V7. Shooting ~90m doc, varied, but no action scenes. Using Cine Effect on Sony because it truly does look close to the 24pA, so accept some rez loss vs. trying to make match in post. Both cams: shot scene 1 in 4:3, but didn't like having to rely on eyes for framing; shot scene 2 in LB and like look of capture and framing. All video meant to go to film. Confusion comes in after reading literally thousands of posts, here and elsewhere.
Do I NEED Nattress to convert 60i to 24p(A) for things other than slo-mo? Should I (FCP) capture as 24 with 2:3:3:2 pd into 24pA sequence or capture as some have said with pd but as 29.97 so I don't lose frames? Editing in 24p for 24 out - can do masters in both pull-downs. I don't see how I lose rez using LB when it's covering up the same lines I'd cover with mask. Yes, I know I have to mask the 4:3. Also see how I lose rez using squeeze, except that DVX Book says it gives same rez as native 16:9 SD cams WHEN used in 24, 25 or 30p mode. But then footnote 1 says LB will "produce superior results" for film blowup or up-rez to HD vs. using squeeze, which does a digital stretch to convert. I'd like to decide these issues before shooting next scene this THU. Waiting to see if I get another 1000 opinions - LOL. Note: shot sc. 1 Sony with HD on; sc. 2 without. For my SD project, didn't see any diff. worth taking up major HD space and having to downconvert. Whaddya guys think? Have to go to my other dayjob now.
