Hello to all:

Look as I see it there is far more demand for the P2 cards then supply as this bidding war plays out on ebay....

current bid for a 16 gig card is 1,100.00 and climbing by the minute. How is it that Panasonic can't keep up with the demand or is this a ploy to make it the big thing. I love P2 but not at the crazy high prices because of low supply. I am no expert on the full scale process of manufacturing but if these were readily available like tape Panny would be making a killing.

Anyone want to sell me a 16 gig card. i leave for Tanzania in 1 week. Send me a message?

I know this must be hurting sales for Panasonic. I personally know of one company who is going to start using other HD cameras because they cannot find a large supply of P2 cards. Pretty pathetic.

They (panasonice) are definetly losing customers because of the lack of any available P2 cards. Even a miniscule supply of available P2 cards would be nice. It doesn't help either that the P2 cards, which aren't really available, are being favored towards the HXV500 customers.

It just sucks for the people who adopted the HVX early, and are rewarded by free 16gb cards for next year rebaters, while we cant find an even an 8gb card. :(

Try www.videoscopeusa.com (http://www.videoscopeusa.com); from what I understand they've got new 16gb cards (and lots of HVX200s) in stock right now.

I really doubt that they are loosing customers... just new converts anyway. Things were far worse back when the cam came out.. and people waited and go through the times that there were really no cams or cards. This cam has established itself in the industry that everyone else is now trying to keep up...

And now thankfully the issue of run times is coming to an abrupt close... and I can't wait to have 84 minutes of run time....

I talked to one of the sales reps at videoscopeusa and he said they are discontinued and no longer being made. Not sure if this is true, so I ordered 2 away because I only have (1) 4 gig card.

4's are discontinued... as far as I know 8's are still being made... but I expect availability to be better for 16's than 's in the future b/c the memory for 8's is harder to find from what i have read...

Haha, I just read in the HPX forum that some guy bought the HPX500 and even though the HPX500 is favored for getting cards first.... he still didn't get his.

Crazy, eh?

THoff
06-21-2007, 11:20 AM
It is favored, but that doesn't mean that he will get the cards. It seems that some dealers are creating different packages with varying numbers of cards and lense. They may sell the camera with only two or even no cards at all and sell those cards separately on a first come, first served basis.

I am that guy. I purchased from Panasonic through a connection in person in NJ. hpx500, 4 16gb Cards, Fujinon Lens.
Got the body right away Lens arrived today, Fed Ex 3 weeks after purchase and only because I badgered.

Still no cards... But I reiterate I am not looking to find them or buy them... I ALREADY BOUGHT THEM. So I would like them now please.
My Panasonic guy says perhaps next week a shipment would be in. He said my lens would be in today and I got it so, we'll see.

There was no delay in Panasonic taking the 27 Grand though, I can say that.

I ordered a 16GB card from Full Compass on 06/05 on a 20 card order they had with Panasonic. They stated that they would be delivered sometime in July. I'm assuming if and when they get the cards in, I'll receive mine and it won't go to an HPX user. Would Panasonic not deliver to Full Compass because of HPX demand? Is it just a rumor that HPX buyers are going to get the cards first. Seems a little fishy to me.

Greetings

Does anyone have any insight into when this P2 supply problem will be resolved?

This has been a 18 month ongoing issue (price and availability). The prices are much better now but the availability issue just seems to be getting worse.

As I said earlier:

"HVX200 without p2 cards is like the HVX200 without a battery.

It is frustrating, and it would be great if the company could at least give guidance on why availability continues to be a problem through a 18 month product cycle.

I remember reading here that the Olympics took up a huge allocation. But that was last year.

Now it is ostensibly the HPX500, but even those cams lack p2 cards from posts here."

I guess I'm not certain of what the company is doing when it provides a number of HPX500 packages for sale all with 4x16GB p2 cards, but none are available.
And no firm timetable to get them.

Essentially you have taken delivery of a >$27,575 paper weight until the cards become available.

I really feel for the HPX guys.

Panasonic is one of the few companies that does not outsource manufacturing. They still do everything in house and in Japan. Problem with that stratergy is that when an issue occurs, like an earthquake, strike, or whatever, it becomes really disruptive to your supply chain.

We are seeing the effects of high demand, coupled with a new product ramp, plus an earthquake in Japan.

Several years ago a major earthquake took out Mogami's factory in Japan. It was quite a while till wire was available from them. I am also biased because I received my 16 gig rebate card as consolation for delayed 8 gig cards. I think they try to do the right thing especially considering the adversarial attitude that many large corporations exhibit these days.

Fingers crossed and filled with hope?

Well...there is only one more weekday (UPS standard delivery day) left in the May/June delivery timeframe for my rebate P2 card.

My 4th of July shoot is in jeopardy...but I've got to believe that if the P2 is not on my doorstep by UPS that Jan will personally fly to Texas and deliver it herself...or pay for me to fly up to NY to get it (where Jan and I can go see a show).

Jan, I'm thinking Beauty and the Beast. What say you?

I had a weird experience with Studio Exchange. First I called to ask if there were any 16GB P2 cards available. The guy I talked to said he would call me back. I got impatient, and called back. Another salesguy told me they had none in stock, but had the 8GB P2 cards for $625. I said I would call back. I got another salesguy, and he said he did have a 16GB P2 card in stock for $900, which is about $100 more than what jetaddiction was quoted. The studio exchange guy said that jetaddiction was a liar and did not receive the card for that price. Ok I said, what's the price for a 8GB card. $650 he says. I told him I was quoted a price of $625. The sales guy said he was going to kill(jokingly) the sales guy that quoted me that price. I don't like dealing with companies that give you the run around like that. Reminded me of a brooklyn shop.

Whoops I may have made a mistake. Jetaddiction, was that $798 in US or Canadian dollars?

jetaddiction@mac.com
07-02-2007, 01:28 PM
well the proof is on ebay just look up completed sales under 16gb p2. it was friday .my ebay name is also jetaddiction. i hit the buy now for $799. then when i called in i thought it was such a great deal i got a second then shipped them together. it was a ebay deal but. i got a great deal . they said they had 7 left on friday. i am sure they could sell them all for $1000 ea. and probably try to. i would..

brokenjack
07-02-2007, 02:49 PM
Yeah, I'm beginning to see the writing on the wall. $900 seems like the going rate. It's just that they flip flopped on the availablity at first which kind of raised my eyebrows. Oh and BTW I didn't use your name, I just said, I knew that someone had gotten the cards for $800. I guess as long as the price stays below what Panasonic sets as retail, the authorized dealer can sell it for whatever, although my first reaction would be to ask, is this price gouging? It's pretty frustrating not being able to shoot in HD on my cam, and I've had it for 2 weeks. Buddy of mine who owns a post facility said he let me borrow one, but since they have been branching out into production, the card stays pretty much in use on paying shoots all the time.

Ryan Patrick O'Hara
07-02-2007, 03:37 PM
900 is the MSRP, If I remember correctly.

Broken Jack, "is this gouging?" Well you must be a hvx newbie because if you think 16gigs at MSRP $900 is a tough pill to swallow, you missed the glory days of $1,400 8 gigs. And that was just two months ago.

People keep your pants on! What I intended to mean, was that if an authorized reseller sells the cards for more than what panasonic has them listed for because of a shortage or what ebay is getting for them, that ain't right. Basically they were selling the cards for $800 bucks on friday, and then $900 on monday. It's still what panasonic lists as retail, so no big deal. Just looking for a deal. Call me spoiled, call me a newbie. No argument here. At the end of the day it's still a camera.

I can tell you that I had to walk 15 miles, uphill, both ways, in 5 feet of snow, just to get to the only telephone in town. I'd call up New York and order my $10,000 4gig P2 card. It was then sent via the pony express. Three months later it was delivered to my door.
Then the great depression hit and I had to sell it for some cans of beans.

I got my 16gb card in under a week from taperesources.com. I would call and tell them you want to place an order for the card. She said they (Pane) was favoring hvx200's with a high enough serial number that no firmware was needed. My was, I gave her my serial number and got the card within a week. They didn't have it in stock at the time either.

It's what I heard from Steve the buyer at Abel. Things change of course as we all know.
He definitely mentioned a 20 card order from Hoodman, and would be evaluating the card soon. And if I'm not mistaken he said that Hoodman cards would be arriving sooner than the Panasonics. I could have misinterpreted what he said, so don't take it as gospel, just passing along the info for whatever it's worth.

Hi everyone.

Bill here from Videoscope, as soon as Barry listed we had cards, they sold out within 10 hours but i have 31 on order thinking of ordering more. The last I heard was Panasonic was saving the 16gig cards to bundle with the higher end camera bundles. As soon as they come in, I will post a note to let everyone know they arrived.

The HVX200 cameras, I am down to about 8 in stock but I order in bundles of 25 trying to maintain inventory.
