Neither HVX200/HPX500 can accomadate upcoming AVC-I technology to double recording time from P2 cards. Higher end HPX2000/3000 cameras will/can use AVC-I.
Just wondering how things will change as AVC-I recording starts to take off (or will it)?
HVX200/HPX500 offer best bang for the buck. Adding AVC-I capability will substantially raise camera costs, but will AVC-I take over the market within , say, 5 yrs.?

Just staring into the crystal ball........
or should I buy a 500 now !

I received the white paper on AVC Intra and it is basically doubling your recording capacity along with doubling the amount of megabits per second your're recording -going from 100 to 200, therefore approaching D5 quality. That is significant IMHO.

It's also 10 bit at 4:2:2 which will mean some really solid color information, especially at 200 Mbps.

The 500 will fulfill a basic need. If you have a need for more data/color information then it would make sense to wait. I've been told end of July/early August for the new boards...the 2000 will be very nice and the 3000 will be unreal with 2.2 Million pixels -progressive. It should kick the F900 in the b*lls.

There are two versions of AVC-Intra, 50 megabits and 100 megabits (there is no 200-megabit version).

At 50 megabits it's 1440x1080, 4:2:0; not sure if it's 8-bit or 10-bit. At 100 megabits it's 1920x1080, 4:2:2, and 10 bit.
