Hey guys,

I'm trying to zoom in on a part of a clip to make it more dramatic, but i don't know how to do this, or what its called to search the forums...

I've found threads on still images and zooming with a 3D camera, but not how to do it with a clip and make it look like a natural camera move.

please help.

Mike

Generally you do see a lot of zooming on clips because of the limited resolution. With still images you have a great deal of flexiblity because you can start with a very large image. If you shoot SD NTSC your resolution is 720 x 486, there's very little room for scaling the image up because the image will degrade quickly. If you shoot HD and scale down to SD you have a lot more resolution to work with.

What exactly are you trying to do?
Pan and zoom on still images or moving clips?

I would export the portion you want to zoom into as a photoshop or .tga sequence. Open them in photoshop and double their size and save. Photoshop's resampling and interpolation is better than After Effect's, as it is meant to be.

Then open the new larger frame sequence in AE, drop the scale to 50%, and you should have something that is very close the the original. Then you can zoom a little increasing the scale.

You will get better results that way. Compare the new files to the old track, with the old track set to 200 scale, and you will see the difference. It's not huge, but the photoshop sampled files retain more detail. Not a hell of a lot, but noticable.

If you have something more than a few seconds in length, Batch Process the image sequence. Here's an Action you can use to double the size of them in your Batch Process:

Actually, that would double the size of any file really, but I named it DV frame size double (or something like that) just for reference.
