View Full Version : Blue screen and blocks after filming in fog

Anyone deal with anything like this?
I was filming my family sitting around a campfire at the beach. It was night time and pretty foggy out and the fog was really damp. So when I got inside, after filming for about 30 mins, I looked down and the tape door was open (I was holding it by the top so I didn't notice.)
So I tried filming inside and when I tried playing back the footage I just got a blue screen with blocks of digital information (little bits of picture) here and there.
I immediately took off the battery and let it sit for a week, two days of which I put it in a plastic bag to try and draw any moisture out just in case moisture was the problem. Same blue screen and blocks.

So I called the dealer that I bought the camera from and they said it might be the recording heads (which is what I was thought it might be) and to put a cleaning tape in it (just like Barry said they would say) so I didn't and cleaned the recording head (twice) using Barry's tutorial. Still nothing.

I can get it to play back things that I've recorded previously but I can't record or playback anything new.
Also the time code is all weird. When the time code is set to time it runs when the camera is not playing or recording but when I hit record it stops. When the time code is set on frames it's completely wacky no matter what the camera is doing.

Has anybody ever dealt with this problem? Had it fixed or fixed it yourself?

This couldn't have come at a worse time. I'm asst. camera on an independent feature length film here in Portland and we were using my DVX but now the DP is having to rent (which is killing his checkbook because we are all on deferred pay.)

See if you can find a camera reset button in your menu. Then try to reset the time and see if that will help. If not you may have to get it professionally cleaned since the recording head might be different from your playback heads.

I did try the reset button and the same results. I also cleaned the heads twice according to Barry's tutorial. It seemed pretty easy I wonder how much better a professional would do.
