I'd like to hear from folks that have done the following:

- shot 24p advanced (2:3:3:2)
- captured 24p advanced into fcp4 (removing the 2:3:3:2)
- have edited and completed a project in a 23.98 timeline
- re-output to NTSC tape (DV, DigiBeta, etc) [at what pulldown?]
- output to DVD (24p Mpeg-2, and/or NTSC)
- can share thier experience about it

perhaps - it would be helpful to have a tech/notes section where people could list thier system specs, for example I am using:
+ dual800mhz G4 w/ 1.5gb ram
+ Two dedicated LaCie d2 120gb firewire drives
+ FCP4.1
+ OSX 10.2.8

I'm having two specific issues:
- frame "stutter" on capture in FCP4
[we are capturing on the A frame, i.e., tc ending :00 or :05]
- compression artifacts in color correction and after effects

Help!

I would love to see examples of completed work, that have been done using the method above. I will gladly swap swag of my first film on DVD, and/or goodies from my day job.

Well, I've done AS A TEST everything you've described except for laying back to tape. Everything was pretty straightforward. FCP captured to 23.98 (using the correct capture preset). I made sure to specify a 23.98 anamorphic timeline. I then cropped and stretched my non-anamorphic footage to be anamorphic.

I exported to a QuickTime .dv file (I checked the settings, but I think they defaulted to the right ones), then compressed with Compressor.

I loaded the resulting m2v and aiff files into DVDSP, which reported the footage as 29.97 fps (which is a known bug, it seems). Just to be sure, I recompressed in compressor, this time creating a new preset specifying "23.98" rather than "auto". QuickTime too showed the result to be 23.98. I imported into DVDSP again (ignoring the 29.97), made up a crappy menu, and burned away. No issues besides the DVDSP mis-framerating; DVDSP played and stepped through the footage properly, and the final DVD worked fine.

Is there anything specific you're having trouble with?

I guess I should clarify - aside from "calling" the footage 29.97, it played back and stepped through the footage as 23.98, and of course encoded the DVD in the same way (as "24p").
