View Full Version : 16gb P2 card not recognized

Hi everyone,

First off, I did successfully update the firmware to the most recent version before using the 16gb P2 card.

I was able to record a clip on the card and review it. Next I went to record again and after a couple of seconds I got an error message (don't remember the exact text) that told me to turn off the camera.

Since then the P2 card is unrecognized by the camera. When checking the card status both slots show as empty even though I have one filled. As a side note, I also noticed that the SD card slot shows up as empty even though I've got a SD card in there.

Has anyone experienced this and is there a (hopefully) easy fix that doesn't require sending it in for repairs and/or trying to get another card?

Thanks-

David S.

Have you tried resetting the cam?

And do other cards work?

I have not tried resetting the cam. I was hoping to troubleshoot more before falling back to that.

Also, I only have the one card. It's the rebate card since they ran out of stock with the 8gb models.

Try to re-update your firmware?

I had a momentary scare last night... I was offloading a day's worth of footage, and about 75% pf the clips came across, then there was some kind of error due to corrupt files. After recieving that message 3 times, I tried to transfer on another computer and it worked fine. Still scary though.

I tried, but the option to update won't appear. I researched that and found from a pdf on Panasonic's site that the update button won't appear unless it recognizes a SD card with a newer firmware update (or something to that effect).

UPDATE: I've reset the system; tried changing the recording format (read somewhere that may help in someway); tried with the SD card both in and out.

Still when I'm in P2 mode the card isn't recognized. Is there a way to revert back to my previous firmware version and start over? The camera won't accept my SD card again to run the update (ie. update button doesn't appear / nor does the SD card)

were you on FCP? 5.1.4? That's really buggy and I've had to go back to 5.1 to avoid them with the p2store that is... Jumping to 6 will hopefully solve my issues.

Did you ever solve this mystery, and if so, how? This is my first post, and just about ready to throw in the towel. Please help!

New HVX200, used only the Firestore until now waiting for P2 cards. Firestore worked fine. 16GB P2s just arrived, and cam won't recognize. Both slots show empty. (Won't recognize the SD card either!) My firmware is apparently up to date (4.06-00-0.00) and the cam model is consistent with recent manufacture (serial number starts with G7....)

I've tried resetting the cam, no change. What am I missing here? Tomorrow I'll go try a friend's 8GB P2 card and see if the cam recognizes that. Any suggestions very much appreciated!

The SD card must be at least 64 Megabytes and must be formatted in the camera.

An SD Card (more than 64MB) is required.
Multi Media Card and SDHC™memory cards cannot be used

Then copy over the firmware update using a card reader on your computer.

Copy the update file of Driver Software to the SD card as follows.

1. Download the Driver Software file “VVVSI*****.zip” from the P2 support desk.

2. Copy the file “VVVSI*****.zip” to the hard disk of your PC and extract the file.

3. Insert a formatted SD card into the card slot of a reader.

4. Copy the whole folder “PRIVATE” in the extracted folder to the SD card.

NOTE: Do not change the construction of folder and the file name

Thank you for writing, David.

Spent the morning troubleshooting with some very helpful techs at a video rental shop here that carries a full line of P2 cams. The upshot is this: the camcorder firmware on my cam is up to date (4.06-00-0.00). My new 16GB P2 cards are good because they work in the shop's other HVX200s. However my new cam does not /can not read the SD card they use with the latest firmware on it to upgrade other cams so they can use 16GB P2 cards. And my cam cannot read the older 8GB P2 cards either.

So it's been narrowed down through a process of elimination to a defective P2 Card Reader or Card Bus. And Panasonic Tech Support was not sympathetic because the camcorder was not purchased through one of their authorized dealers.

So I am attempting return the camcorder to the merchant for a refund. Moral of the story: when dealing with Panasonic electronics, no authorized dealer, no warranty.

I hope, at least, that by writing about my problem in this forum other potential HVX200 buyers will be alerted to possible pitfalls....

MaryLynn.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties.

There are literally hundreds of posts on buying Panasonic authorized.

As you have discovered, saving a few hundred dollars isn't worth it.

But I hope it works out well for you,

best

Call Panasonic service ASAP I think they will be more help full and there turnaround is less then two day so instead of guessing and experimenting it is better to protect your investments
