Has anyone heard, or does anyone here know enough to take a stab t whether the HPX would work with Hydra... of course anything is possible, but how hard and worth it would it be for them to develop a new one for the HPX?

Also, does anyone have an idea of how high of quality could be achieved with the bigger chips?

Lastly, would this be a huge undertaking or would the HVX system share components/design attributes?

Ok, one more.... what will the timing of Hydra's and Red's launch and the development time and cost of the HVX version do to this possibility?

LOL... I can't wait to have someone scream at me :)

I dont know how the Hydra interacts with the HVX but I would think it could be modified for the HPX.

The real problem I see with the Hydra is despite being a great product unless it can get to market quickly it may suffer the same fate as the Cineporter.

Larger companies have the resources and personel to get products to market; in a rapidly changing market a great idea today may be; not obselete; but rather overtaken by changes in the market.

Their can be a downside however, as large companies can suffer economies of scale, large workforce means large overheads and costs. Also new developments can suffer from a need to maintain a core market or segment.

I think the Red model is the one to follow. A small to medium sized company developing a complete intergrated package, based on what customers have told you they want, and at a compeditive price.
The secret to their success is they do not have to protect any other market segment so they can produce the camera the user wants.

Looking at the development of the HVX which was one of the big milestones in HD then the appearance of the HPX its clear Panasonic and others are aware the impact Red is having on the market. Changes are happening faster.

Just look at the different 2 and 4K cameras in development at the moment.

So will the Hydra work; I'm sure its a great product. I see it having a six to twelve month window of opportunity before the Red starts shipping and newer cameras start to appear. I just hope it is not overtaken by these developments.

I'm not sure that RED is a model many others can follow. Red has very deep financial pockets funding the development, that's not something many others can rely on.

If RED becomes a success and the company eventually breaks even and can sustain itself, that's great, but it is years away.

I wish they would make Hydra for the HPX and allow it to shoot on the p2 cards as if it's just a function in the cam... For instance... select: 4:2:2 or 4:4:4... Select 2k or non 2k... You know what I'm sayin? Instead of having to shoot on the mac, and go through all that stuff... But I guess you cant
