Alright, i am a little disappointed at the moment because i just recieved my new mac pro quad core 3.0 and my render times are not what i expected. I have been comparing some render between my new mac pro and my old dual power mac, and my power mac has been keeping up..... Is there anything i can do to get those render times a lot quicker??? i was hopeing that long renders where going to be history haha.. HElp is appreciated and all suggestions welcomed! thanks!:dankk2:

Are you using AE CS3? It is Intel native and has an option for multiprocessing, which essentially opens up other instances of AE to help with the render...needs lots of RAM though, but it has been cutting render times way down.

If you're using 6.5 or 7, it's running in Rosetta, which will cause slow downs...give us some more details as to what you're rendering, which codec, comp size, frame rate, etc and maybe we can help some more. Check your RAM settings too in the prefs.

I am running AE 7. My mac pro has 4 gbs of ram. I am normally running a 30p 720x480 comp with dv footage. Thanks for the help!

How long is the comp and how long are the renders...details?!?!

The comp is about 10 seconds long. The project that i was comparing was using light streaks similar to the ones that Andrew Kramer from videocopilot.net uses in his ipod nano tutorial. My render times were around 2 and a half minutes. I have come to the conclusion that i may need to adjust some setting in after effects to get things pumping a little bit quicker. I have heard a couple of times now that because AE7 is a rosetta based program it will not running as quick on an intel based computer such as a mac? Is this true ? Thanks

2 1/2 minutes is not bad at all, especially considering that AE is running under Rosetta, which by default makes it slow(er).

It's really not that long to be worried about it.

Alright, i think i can handle it i guess haha. I actually found some info at creative cow.net about running AE7 on intel based macs. They talking about turning down the amount of ram that you allow AE to use which suprising stops AE from crashing and allows it to run quicker. ITs wierd but works.. HOPEFULLY.. thanks for all the help
