View Full Version : P2 question
I received my HPX500 today and am generaly impressed - still sorting out workflow issues though (I am not a previous HVX owner)..
The instructions specifically say that after offloading clips from the card (using the slot on a MacBook G4 and reviewing the clips with P2 Log pro) that you should NOT delete the clips on the P2 card.. But it doesn't say what you should do!
What do you do? Do you have to reformat the card in the camera every time you clear the card?

Yes, that is par for the course, it only takes a few seconds....
Try it, you'll like it!
Basically you make a new folder of a hard drive and copy from the P2 card -
the CONTENTS folder and LASTCLIP.txt, the LASTCLIP.txt is needed to join
spanned clips. When one P2 card fills up it "rolls over" to the next card....
www.dvfilm.com has some new software you can use with a MAC
to edit natively with the .mxf files directly from the P2 card if you so wish...
Having 4 -16 gig cards would make this more feasible.
You are more than welcome to e-mail re: P2 questions!!

Hi,
Over on our website, www.panasonic.com/broadcast, under the AG-HPX500 product page you will find a workflow paper for working with FCP. I suggest you take some time to go through it. Being new to the workflow requires you to take a bit of time to hammer out what you are going to do in advance of being required to do so. I think you will find the paper helpful.
Look under the Resources Tab and I am sure you will find them.
But to answer your question, once you have securely moved your data and you are comfortable that it is there, you will need to reformat the card to record again. Or you can erace the card but using the Mac to do this is a bit tricky as it really is not gone until you empty the trash. I believe the P2 Log Pro or P2 Genie has a routine to do this as well.
Hope this helps,
Jan
Thanx to you both -
I hope there's a way to do this in P2 Log Pro , as Jan suggests there may be (although I haven't found it yet), because my plan has been to treat P2 cards like film magazines and have my AC off-load them while I'm shooting.. Having to stop to reformat in the camera could be inconvenient at times.. I have another question, but since it's specific to the HPX500, I will start a new topic...
By the way, Jan - I've tried to open that workflow/FCP page on the Panasonic site several times in the past and all I get is a grey page.. I tried it again just now - is there another way to access it?
